VA Audit Reveals Thousands Of Veterans Waiting For Care
Click here for reuse options!In results of an internal audit ordered as the scandal over deadly VA wait times exploded last month, the agency said it found that schedule misreporting was widespread. Of the 731 facilities surveyed, it found that 76 percent experienced wait time reporting problems.
In the May 12 to June 3 survey, the VA said it found that 57,436 new veteran patients had been waiting 90 days or more for an appointment. And it found that 63,869 patients over the past 10 years had requested appointments that have never been scheduled.
The agency said it was abandoning a two-week scheduling goal for appointments after finding it was “not attainable.”
“This data shows the extent of the systemic problems we face, problems that demand immediate actions,” VA acting Secretary Sloan Gibson said in a statement.

The computer facilities needed by the VA already exist: the NSA has huge new facilities that now are no longer required since they must stop storing phone calls and emails.

I’m a techie who has built multiple government info systems and several commercial websites. There is no speed of light issue here. NSA’s iron could be put to VA use with no problems so long as it actually works, (which they were having trouble with some months ago).

You really think NSA’s top secret quantum encryption servers installed in Ft. Meade Maryland are going to another agency for the VA’s use? But thanks for providing my colleagues and I with lucrative IT contracts to provide simple solutions remediating pending project failure & cancellation. You realize why inexpensive Amazon server farms are used by many agencies today? New faster hardware and infrastructre is 2-4 times cheaper every 9 to 18 months on average e.g. http://www.oracle.com/us/products/database/exadata/database-machine-x4-2/overview/index.html

To me, you sound kinda’ like Sarah Palin. You’re not are you? I just get that from your word soup buzzword-oriented postings. The NSA computers I refer to are their newest and best, none are quantum, they are just database applications. They are all in that new facility out West, somewhere. The one that is tasked with storing and accessing all phone and email transmissions of American citizens. It’s one of their most famous top-secret installations. (Google it?)

My point is hardware is cheap. The VA’s issue is explosive unfunded growth requiring rapid application development solutions that this ‘least popular’ congress doesn’t want to succeed. Yes I’m familiar with Utah and their other facilities that store 20+ exabytes to zettabytes annually. The private sector AT&T, etc have long stored all calls too, but require FISA warrants to listen citizen to citizen. Most of the data mining is very distributed across 16+ agencies. let them go to their own doctors – private -and have the govt pay the doctors. But a certified exam statement signed by the patient must accompany the bill – who’d trust a doctor to not try to scam $ from the usa -unimaginable.

It’s the details that might shine a light on the truth. How many of those seeking appointments COULD have gone to their own doctors and/or had insurance? I had a friend that was denied VA coverage due to his income being to high. How many didn’t follow up on their request for appointments?
I get my meds cheaper at Wal-mart and the local clinic than I would if a asked for them from the VA. (they usually only carry generics).
If the services sought were of a minor or non life threatening nature, why is ~90 day wait so bad? My next eye exam was over 90 days out when I made the appointment.
The long waits could typically be overblown or exaggerated, especially by Obama Hating right wingers.
