Indiana Teacher Duct-Tapes Special Needs Student’s Shoes To Her Feet
The parents are duly outraged.
“We were shocked that a teacher would use duct tape on her shoes,” Nate Searcy told the Daily News. “It shouldn’t be used in a classroom, especially in a special-needs classroom. The only thing I could think of them using duct tape for is restraint, which is unacceptable.”
Nate and Elizabeth Searcy of west Indianapolis have two children, Shaylyn, who has Down’s syndrome, and a 6-year-old son, Riley.
Shaylyn’s school bus arrived as usual on Monday, but the stunned parents found their daughter’s socks and shoes were duct-taped to her. The constraints were on so tightly that Shaylyn was not able walk down the aisle to get off the bus.
