And Now It’s Time For Another Episode Of Hip, Hip Hypocrisy

As reported last week, thanks to Florida GOP Rep. Cliff Stearns (pictured), all 9-11 First Responders will have to be cross-checked against the FBI terrorist watch list before they are entitled to receive benefits under the new James Zadroga 9/11 Health And Compensation Law. That’s the law killed by the GOP the first time it came up for a vote in the House. It was also delayed by filibuster in the Senate before it eventually passed last December, but only after Congress was publicly shamed by many in the media.

Paradoxically, a gun control bill sponsored by New Jersey Senator Frank Lautenberg, The “Denying Firearms and Explosives to Dangerous Criminals Act” which would allow the Attorney General’s Office to stop gun or explosive purchases by people on terrorist watch lists, languishes in the Senate, with little hope of passage.

Apparently Congress has no problem questioning the motives of those who have become sick as a result of their heroism in the aftermath of the worst terrorist attack in our nation’s history. Yet, when it comes to those who want guns — for whatever reason — no one should dare question their background or motivation.

So join me if you will, for an enthusiastic cheer of Hip, Hip Hypocrisy!
