First Chilean Miner Is Out
An amazing rescue is concluding as the first of 33 miner has been released. Florencio Avalos.
It is thought the 31-year-old – whose brother is also trapped – has been acting as the group’s official underground cameraman.
Every one of the miners has their own story – and more will emerge as the men are hoisted to safety one by one.
The fourth out, according to Chilean television reports, will be Carlos Mamani Solis, a Bolivian who arrived in Chile looking for a job and had only worked in the San Jose mine for a few days before it collapsed.
Last out is expected to be Luis Urzua, who was the shift foreman when the mine collapsed on August 5.
