Anti-Park51 Rally An Exercise In Intolerance

Judged by the keynote speaker alone, one would have to conclude that the rally in lower Manhattan on 9/11 protesting the proposed Islamic center was one of intolerance.  Keynote speaker Dutch parliamentarian Geert Wilders ironically lauded America for its tolerance, while saying tolerance can’t be open-ended.

For someone so emphatic about the importance of tolerance, Wilders himself has a questionable record. He supports a ban on the Koran, a ban on the construction of new mosques and told The Guardian in 2008 that “Islam is not a religion, it’s an ideology.” The “ideology of a retarded culture,” as he termed it.

Wilders warned against sharia law, said, “America, New York, and sharia are incompatible,” and referred to the proposed Islamic center as “a house of sharia.”
