Producer of Reagan Alzheimer’s movie defends

Adam McKay says the “deification” of Ronald Reagan led to the demise of his project.

“There were scary messages left at our office,” McKay added Stuff like, ‘How dare you say anything bad about Ronald Reagan, you better watch your back.’ Some very scary voicemails.”

Reagan’s family fiercely attacked “Reagan” last month, blasting the film’s premise as insensitive to people suffering from Alzheimer’s.

Michael Reagan, the president’s eldest son, said that the disease “is not a comedy — first it robs you, then it kills you.”

Reagan’s daughter Patty Davis, meanwhile, penned an open letter recounting “the fear” plaguing her parent during his illness.

“Reagan” reportedly tells the story of a White House intern tasked with making the president believe he is an actor playing the role of commander-in-chief while battling Alzheimer’s.

Ronny was the worst president of my lifetime and the damage he caused to the middle class is still felt today.
    1. Reagan cut taxes for the rich and increased taxes on the Middle Class (Trickle down BS)
    2. He tripled the National Debt
    3. Presided over Iran/Contra
    4. Reagan funded Terrorists
    5. He took the unemployment rate from under 7.5% to over 11%
    6. He Ignored AIDS resulting the deaths of millions
    7. Reagan gave amnesty to 3 million undocumented Immigrants
    8. Reagan relentlessly attacked Unions and the middle class
    9. Reagan raided the Social Security Trust Fund to compensate for tax cuts for the rich
    10. He fought against the idea of American citizens receiving healthcare
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
To top it off, he would be to liberal for today’s GOP wingnuts!

So many forget when they are no longer in office.

it’s odd how the usa treats its x-presidents – reagan and the bushies left their big white house filled with trash – carter went on to become bigger than any repub on the planet – have you all forgotten that now with trump on the runway, HE must be stopped. and that’s not from just two outside mayors who think.

I’ve never been a fan of Ronald “Dutch” Reagan and in the past made insensitive, cruel remarks about him and this disease. It’s the kind of thing I am trying to improve on.

If the producers want to make a movie about Alzheimer’s, fine. A lot of families are confronted by it and it is heartbreaking to deal with.
The heartbreak of the Reagan family should not be magnified by someone intruding on their privacy in order to make a buck off the Reagan name. They should be left alone if they don’t want to be part of this movie.
That the producers did not have the decency to ask or think their need to make money means they can intrude on others’ privacy is unwarranted presumption. They need to learn to treat other people with more respect and courtesy.

      I understand your concern,
My Mom died of Alzheimer’s and it wasn’t pretty or easy for family.
But she was not the leader of the free world with access to nuclear codes.

you are only assuming that their main motive was in making money….which is legal. They may have wanted to tell a true story about a time when others hide a illness that clearly made Reagan unfit for being president. We had the right to know that doctors, and family members, people around him hid this from the American voter. And we need to know this story so we can try to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

Every time a president or their spouse has a major illness, the press make a big deal about it. Money and attention get focused on what ails them and progress is made. We learned about breast cancer and colon cancer and now people more often get colonoscopies.

We need to hear this story for multiple reasons, one is that with aging baby boomers we are going to be hit with an epidemic of Alzheimer’s cases. We need to find prevention and cures. This movie will help.

One of Reagan’s sons said in an interview that his dad had this while in office.

I always thought of him as more of a senile malicious puppet. Bringing up his Alzheimer’s seems pretty benign.

it says a lot about the kind of people who would endanger the US by letting someone with Alzheimer’s sit in the Oval Office. Reagan didn’t ask for this illness, so it isn’t his fault……but the people who knew, who acted on behalf of the GOP instead of in the best interests of the nation, now they deserve a law suit of some kind and maybe jail time. I see it as an act of treason to let this happen.

We seriously need to expand the legal definition of treason. Reagan had an administration with the highest number of people convicted of crimes I believe. The GOP answer was to legalize some of that behavior.

People will do anything to gain or keep power.

Twain said something about politicians were doing things for one million that they ought not do for two.
