Two Pennsylvania Congresspeople, John Boccieri and Kathy Dahlkemper, have received threats because of voting for health care reform.

“Having flown missions in and out of Iraq and Afghanistan, I know what it’s like to be in harm’s way,” said Boccieri, an Air Force Reserve pilot based at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station in Vienna. “But I never imagined serving in Congress could feel the same.”

Dalhkemper is an anti-choice Democrat who voted with Bart Stupak for reform. She received a threatening note saying, in part, “You will never sleep through the night again.”

“Regrettably, my office has received a number of emails, letters, faxes and phone calls that are threatening or menacing in nature as a result of my vote in favor of health care reform,” said Ms. Dahlkemper in a statement. “Most of these communications cannot be sourced; while some are coming from Western Pennsylvania, the majority of these inappropriate communications do not originate from my constituents.”

And Congressman Anthony Weiner of New York had to evacuate his office because of a threatening letter and suspicious package.

Weiner issued a statement saying, “Earlier today an envelope containing white powder and a threatening letter was delivered to my community office in Kew Gardens.

“The NYPD was immediately alerted and have responded appropriately by sending a Haz-Mat team. Any questions related to their response should be directed to the NYPD.

“My first priority is the safety of my staff and neighbors, and the authorities are currently taking steps to investigate and resolve the situation.”
