Jim D. Adkisson, charged with first degree muder at a Knoxville, TN, Unitarian Church, left a four page letter in which he expressed frustration at being unemployed, his expectation of  being killed by police, and his hatred of liberals.  Two people are dead and five are injured after the gunman entered the church and opened fire during a children’s performace of “Annie”.

“It appears that what brought him to this horrible event was his lack of being able to obtain a job, his frustration over that, and his stated hatred for the liberal movement,” Knoxville Police Chief Sterling Owen IV said at a press conference Monday.

Unitarian churches are known for their progressive social work and advocacy of women’s rights and gay rights.

The Knoxville congregation has provided sanctuary for political refugees, fed the homeless and founded a chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, according to its Web site.
