There Really Is Some Good In This World (Video)
Every now and then, you come across a story that just transcends the petty issues that we all have in life. A story that does not involve politics, hate, or anger. A story that sometimes restores your faith in humanity, that there really are some good people out there, and will go out of their way for the sake of a sick little boy.
An 8-year-old boy with a passion for WWE fulfilled a dream last month by attending WrestleMania 30. It was just three weeks before he would pass away following a long battle with pediatric brain cancer.
Connor Michalek first met his favorite wrestler Daniel Bryan back in 2012 after his family posted a video on YouTube. The two met and instantly bonded. They kept in touch over the next two years, WGHP reports.
It’s now two years later:
Before WrestleMania 30 on April 6, Connor Michalek and Daniel Bryan shared a special moment with all of the WWE stars. Connor interacted with AJ Lee, Stephanie McMahon and took out Triple H with a single punch.
After Daniel Bryan won his WrestleMania 30 match, Connor’s dad was hopeful he might see Connor.
“Daniel got out of the ring on our side and the very first person Daniel went up to was Connor,” Steve Michalek, Connor’s father, said. “He leaned over and said ‘Connor you mean a lot to me. You give me a lot of strength. You helped me earn this. Please keep on fighting.’”
Michalek said the moment was perfect.”
WARNING: Grab some tissues for this one:
Members of the McMahon family created a charity in honor of this little boy. Love them or hate them, it is still a beautiful gesture in memory of this little “Old Soul” who died on April 25th.

A great story. I couldn’t help but think of my own kids when they were that age and how lucky I am that they are healthy.

Sniff. I wish I’d listened to the tissue warning first.

I can live with Loki, if you are referring to the character from the “Vikings”…

The WWE can ease up a tad on the weekly bashing on Daniel brian ( who has a neck injury ) each week, it kind of pours cold water on stories like this. Although the WWE is one if not the biggest supporters of make-a-wish and special Olympic sponsors among others out there They can do more good if the WWE executives didn’t get heavily involved in the show It sends out too many mixed messages.

Now that the ‘wrestling’ is part soap opera, it’s even sillier than before. Most intelligent people know it’s fake, yet they draw large crowds and have many viewers on TV.
Of course, the owners are making out like bandits. Millionaires all.
The individual that gives his all to engage in this ‘entertainment’ and gets injured is kicked to the curb and quickly forgotten about. The steroid use is rampant.

I think if steroids is in use Its up to the individual ( just like any sport ) but a soap- opra ? Nah that’s going to light on what these wrestlers have to go through each week. I would like to know the name of a soap opra star that gets hit with a folding chair only to do it again in the near future.

Pro wrestling is one of my guilty pleasures. At least it was before I noticed I was older than all of the active wrestlers.
This heartwarming story does not surprise me at all. First of all, I realize that pro wrestling is not competition, it is theatre with predetermined outcomes. But the fact is that there is no faking out gravity. The theatre includes 300+ lb men doing somersaults and backflips from 10 feet in the air. They are athletes in every sense of the word.
Some of the most hated “heels” in wrestling are also some of the most humble, gracious intelligent people you could ever hope to meet. Years ago when I lived in the Boston area, I worked for a company which provided the service for professional Hasselblad cameras.
The late wrestler Walter “Killer” Kowalski lived in the area, was an avid and accomplished amateur photographer and used those cameras. One day, he was scheduled for a VIP tour and I was the person selected to escort him back to the service bays when he arrived to meet with the technicians.
Aside from being the absolute largest human being I had ever seen in my life, he was soft-spoken humble and unfailingly polite; nothing like his mad-dog lunatic ring personna.
Check out the documentary “Beyond the Mat” if you are interested in the off-stage activities of some of the older pro wrestlers.
In the meantime, kudos to WWE for bringing a ray of sunshine into the life of this child.

I’l give them that…ballet dancers ain’t got nothing on the choreography these boys do.
Furthest from a fan, but nothing but respect.

Not a fan as an “adult” (I am still very child like) but as a kid, my favorite was Andre the Giant, I seen him one time in town, then he drove by me after the event ended and he was in a Volkswagen Bug, how the hell he fit, I have no idea but I heard he was the sweetest guy in person.

That is really going back to old school with Killer Kowalski. My favorite growing up was Ivan “Polish Power” Putski… =)

thanks for sharing the story Pistol.
I was in my mid 20’s when I met Kowalski so I do not think it was the distorted view of a child that made him seem so big. but he was friggin enormous. even acknowledging the scripted nature of all the proceedings, I was wondering how in the heck would anybody believe Sanmartino or any human could pin this guy for 3 seconds…
ah memories….
