At such a young age, it takes an amazing amount of courage to do this in my opinion. I don’t know if I would have had the courage to do this myself. Kudos to her.

Bethany Townsend decided to post some snapshots of herself in a bikini, bravely exposing her colostomy bags for the first time. And now they’ve gone viral.

The photos of the 23-year-old English makeup artist, who suffers from Crohn’s disease, have been viewed by more than nine million people, according to Caters News.

Townsend said the overwhelmingly positive response to her pictures has inspired her to pursue a career in modeling.

“I didn’t expect this kind of reaction at all,” Townsend told Caters. “The photo has been seen by millions of people and it’s had 190,000 likes and over 10,000 comments on Facebook – it’s just gone ballistic.”

    I applaud her courage. I had a colostomy bag for close to 6 months. It was incredibly painful every time it became active. It was so bad that I had to go into another room so my family wouldn’t hear me cry and scream with the pain.

    It also leaked incessantly, and required replacement almost every day. I was actually contemplating suicide but the doctors found a way to repair what was left of my colon and permanently removed the bag.

    I understand that not everyone has the horrible pain I experienced but nevertheless my heart goes out to this young woman who not only can live with this but has the courage to try and live a normal life.
