Congressman Clay Aiken?

Former American Idol star Clay Aiken is considering a run for Congress. The North Carolina native has made calls and commissioned polling to weigh his chances.

Aiken, who recently came out as gay, is an enthusiastic supporter of marraige eqaulity and other issues which can attract progressive voters. Some think that Aiken has a unique opportunity to attract voters even in this deep south state.

[He] might represent the perfect politician in a post-gay marriage America. For the Democrats, he’s a charismatic entertainer who would be visible proof that gays can be parents, too. For Republicans, he would be an Acceptable Homo: a rural boy who even middle-aged evangelical Christian couples have fond memories of.
