Trump scrambles to mend fences with China as Mexico fiasco re-erupts

But will this be enough?

President Trump said he would honor the U.S.’ longstanding “One China” policy during a Thursday night phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping, an effort to ease diplomatic tensions between the two powers.

The two leaders spoke by phone, the White House said in a statement, their first phone conversation since Trump’s inauguration.

“The two leaders discussed numerous topics and President Trump agreed, at the request of President Xi, to honor our ‘one China’ policy,” according to the White House.

The policy dictates that Washington recognizes Beijing as the only official government of China and will not establish formal relations with its rival, Taiwan.

The White House described the Trump-Xi call as “lengthy” and “extremely cordial,” and said both men had extended invites to visit their respective countries.

Well, at least one call with a foreign leader not named Putin has gone well for a change – unlike the continuing messy back-and-forth with Mexico, including pushback from a Mexican official concerning reports that he and Jaerd Kushner influenced the language of a Trump declaration:

Mexican Foreign Minister Luis Videgaray on Thursday rejected a CBS news report that he had made changes to U.S. President Donald Trump’s speech announcing an executive order for the construction of a border wall with Mexico.

I never thought I would use this phrase, but today I’m doing it: FAKE NEWS,” Videgaray said on social network Twitter, after CBS News quoted unnamed Mexican officials as saying he had worked with Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, to tone down the speech.

Trump wants to put up a border wall to keep illegal immigrants from entering the United States, but his insistence that Mexico will pay for it has been the source of friction between the two governments.

In a report on Thursday, CBS News said Kushner last month showed a speech Trump was preparing to deliver at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to Videgaray, who was horrified, and the two changed the speech to cast the future of U.S.-Mexico relations in a more positive light.

Then Kushner, who is also a senior adviser to Trump, went with Videgaray to brief Trump on the reworded version, and the president was ultimately convinced to accept the changes, it added.

Asked about the report, Videgaray told Reuters: “I played no part whatsoever in drawing up the president’s speech.

Well I seen the conference with rump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Jinping said he is going to go with rump to Florida to golf. Who is paying the rump property for these rooms and use of the golf course?

    • Obewon February 10th, 2017 at 20:43

Don’t forget the showers flow freely at Mar-a-Lago, from any source you choose!
DT: ‘Hey Girls it’s Chinese President Xi Jinping!’ Time for Donnies hags to go to work…

      • Suzanne McFly February 10th, 2017 at 21:47

When I seen the conference, I seen rump looking at Jinping and all I could think that was going on in that empty head of his is some perverted question he would ask about Asian women.

        • Obewon February 11th, 2017 at 01:21

DT: ‘President Xi Jinping is it true what they say about ping pong balls being expelled far and wide by your wife?’

          • Suzanne McFly February 11th, 2017 at 10:31

Good one Obe, I was just thinking of innocent golden showers. You took it to the next level lol.

Something like, “Is it true it’s slanted?” He probably read it in Penthouse Forum, and that’s as real to him as the Enquirer.

          • Suzanne McFly February 11th, 2017 at 10:32

That is him, keeping it classy.

            • Larry Schmitt February 11th, 2017 at 10:41

I actually did read a story about that in the Forum a long time ago. That was very popular when I was in the Air Force 40+ years ago. They always presented them very straight-faced, as if they were real.

              • Suzanne McFly February 11th, 2017 at 11:02

No doubt, Playboy has some great articles. I don’t know if anyone reads them though lol.

                • Larry Schmitt February 11th, 2017 at 11:12

But the Forum stories were written by the Penthouse editors, pretending that they were sent in by readers.

                  • Suzanne McFly February 11th, 2017 at 11:32

Oh, I see. Sorry, I never read or even really looked at Penthouse lol. I seen some nudey magazines in my families house in up state New York, they had just bought the house so I am pretty sure it was from the previous owner lol. Well that is what my grandfather said anyway.

                    • Larry Schmitt February 11th, 2017 at 11:52

That was his story, and he’s sticking to it.

                    • Larry Schmitt February 11th, 2017 at 11:53

The Forum started out as a section in Penthouse magazine, but it was so popular that after a few years they published it as a separate magazine.

                    • Suzanne McFly February 11th, 2017 at 16:02

Was it always writers writing these letters and never letters from the actual readers?

                    • Larry Schmitt February 11th, 2017 at 16:09

There may have been some from readers, but I think most were written by the editors. I don’t have any proof of that, it’s just my hunch.

                    • Suzanne McFly February 11th, 2017 at 20:46

They must of been very creative for people to continue reading even though they admitted it was written by editors.

              • Hirightnow February 11th, 2017 at 11:43

“Dear Forum. You’ll NEVER believe what happened when these two gorgeous Asian stewardesses, who were identical twins, invited me home during a layover…”

                • Larry Schmitt February 11th, 2017 at 11:51

That sounds a lot like one I actually read. But then, they all sounded alike. And all the men had yuuuge …. you know.

Lots of free beer for the Girls at Trump’s Parties.

  2. rat618 February 10th, 2017 at 14:08

We the taxpayers are paying for it and of course Trump ISN’T a taxpayer.

  3. Larry Schmitt February 10th, 2017 at 14:32

This buffoon is clearly out of his depth. He is having as much success as I would if I attempted brain surgery. The difference is, I would know not to attempt it, and I would call a qualified doctor. This idiot doesn’t know what he doesn’t know (everything), and keeps digging his own grave deeper. Trouble is, we’re in the same grave.

Trump has a 2 handicap according to the USGA. Nobody has ever had enough raw talent to get a 2 handicap without constant relentless practice. The people who blew a gasket because Obama golfed occasionally during his presidency have lost any credibility they had in not getting wigged out by Trump’s CONSTANT golfing. Obama played 306 rounds in 8 years as President, about 1/4th of the record holder Woodrow Wison who played over 1200 rounds of golf despite having a stroke while in office.

President Barack Obama made it four months into his presidency before his first golf outing as commander in chief. George W. Bush made it even longer, first hitting the links as president about 5 ½ months into his first term.

Donald Trump made it two weeks before heading to the golf course.

On his first vacation as president to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, Trump spent about eight hours at the Trump International Golf Club last Saturday and Sunday. And he will be taking his clubs out again for more golfing this weekend, as he is scheduled to play with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

    • Budda February 10th, 2017 at 16:35

No way is he a 2 handicap….unless he plays from the ladies tees, and even than.

He lies about everything so I assume he lies about his golf scores.

      • basedonfact February 10th, 2017 at 17:33

USGA says he is a 2 handicap. That’s a good enough source for me. He golfs constantly and has for over 50 years. It is the only thing he has ever actually worked at

        • Budda February 10th, 2017 at 20:00

I’ve seen him play. A hacker

          • basedonfact February 14th, 2017 at 12:17

Stick to your post truth world where anecdote and innuendo is more important than data.

If he is such a hacker why would he claim a 2 handicap and have to give you strokes?

The USGA does not take kindly to cheating.

            • Budda February 14th, 2017 at 15:16

Because he lies about everything…including golf.

What’s this about giving me strokes?

              • basedonfact February 16th, 2017 at 12:04

You obviously are not a golfer. The purpose of a handicap is to allow golfers of different skill levels to compete directly with each other. If you have a handicap of 2 and I have a handicap of 13 and a 3rd player has a 6 handicap I get to take 1 stroke off my total on 11 holes during the round and the 3rd player gets to take of 1 on 4 holes so If I hit 84 and you hit 74 and player 3 hits 78 I win. If you look at the scorecard from any course you will see the holes have a handicap number. If you get 4 strokes you get one on each of the four holes labeled hdcp1,2,3, and 4

                • Budda February 16th, 2017 at 16:13

I am a golfer. I know what handicaps are for. Trump isn’t normal, he lies about his handicap to show how great he is. Hank Haney says very few 70 year olds have 2 handicaps unless they play every day on the same course.

                  Again, Trump is not normal.

              • basedonfact February 16th, 2017 at 12:13

Cheaters usually claim higher handicaps. If someone wants to cheat they will intentionally play poorly to get a high handicap. Claiming a lower handicap than your skill sets you up to lose big.

If you are a 2 handicap sandbagging as a 5 handicap you give yourself a 3 shot edge.

In addition scorecards have to be signed by you AND your opponent. Pros have been disqualified from PGA tournaments for signing a card with a simple mistake.

                • Budda February 16th, 2017 at 16:08

His ego won’t let him do that.

Maybe China reminded the orange gibbon how many hundreds of thousands he owes the Bank of China. I bet they did.

  6. granpa.usthai February 11th, 2017 at 00:28

well hell, the LIAR trump ain’t going to bring the Armed Forces back home to America AS PROMISED, so I’ll just up and ask President Xi to issue the orders.

With our economy faltering (and no economic boom detected) our troops need to be back home with their families to protect them from comey’s illegally armed white racist terrorist in Nevada and help them weather the rising cost of living, fuel price increases, food price increases and the like.

  7. amersham1046 February 11th, 2017 at 20:54

Mend fences? , I though Trump was a builder of walls
