Blitzer pounds Chaffetz for refusal to investigate Trump’s conflicts of interest

Posted by | February 8, 2017 22:15 | Filed under: Politics

UPDATE: Watch Wolf Blitzer slice and dice Rep. Jason Chaffetz:

Trump didn’t want to talk with House Oversight Committee chair Jason Chaffetz about oversight – and Chaffetz sounded all too eager to oblige:

President Donald Trump met with Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT), the chair of the House Oversight Committee, on Tuesday at the White House, but the two did not discuss oversight at the request of the President.

“Before my bum even hit the chair, the president said, ‘No oversight. You can’t talk about anything that has to do with oversight,'” Chaffetz told reporters following his meeting with Trump, according to Politico.

They did not discuss oversight of the Trump administration or investigations into Hillary Clinton, Chaffetz said.

The oversight chair said that he may talk to Trump about oversight at a later time.

“At the appropriate time, perhaps [I will], but while we have ongoing investigations that’s not what I was there to talk to the president about,” Chaffetz said, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.

[T]he oversight chairman indicated that he would not pursue investigations into Trump’s potential conflicts of interest.

“The Democrats can flail and complain and run around with their heads cut off. The reality is he’s exempt from this,” Chaffetz said, referring to conflict of interest laws, according to The Hill. “It would have to rise to a very high level for us to [target Trump].”

The congressman said that his committee will instead focus on how Trump “administers the government, how those government dollars are spent,” per The Hill.

Um, no, Jason. He is not exempt “from this.”

But then, it’s OK if you’re a Republican, because party loyalty Trumps lrgal and constitutional duties.

Chaffetz would begin a thorough investigation of Trump’s financial conflicts of interest, his ties to Russia, red flags in his tax returns, etc. — unfortunately, he simply has too much on his plate right now, because … Benghazi! Email servers! Obama prefers mustard over ketchup!

  2. Tommie February 8th, 2017 at 23:45

Of course not, they are on the same side!

    • Larry Schmitt February 9th, 2017 at 07:03

Which unfortunately is not the same side we, the American people, are on.

Lady Clinton WON the popular vote by 3,000,000.

This needs to be addressed DAILY until it sinks into the heads of the arrogant republicans in congress.

  3. mea_mark February 9th, 2017 at 08:09

He is not wanting to investigate because he himself has a conflict of interest, if he investigates his boss, he might get fired. It’s the corrupt #Derp45 administration. We need to end this administration soon and move on.

Chaffetz is a part of the problem…he is running interference for trump…intentionally not doing his job…as are most if not all of the republicans in congress…they have succeeded in destroying a functioning government in just three weeks…the GOP are traitors, war or not…they have totally dishonored themselves, and the office in which they reside…the Last of the Democrats in congress had better be up for this massive task, of saving the United States of America, from itself…

Trump absolutely needs to put his assets into a blind trust. If he wasn’t willing to resolve the conflicts of interest, he shouldn’t have run for office.

    • granpa.usthai February 10th, 2017 at 07:51

absolutely. the republican congress is a total embarrassment to the founding of this nation. there is NO way to justify their arrogance of ignoring 3,000,000 voters which just happens to be the number of voters who actually gave Lady Clinton the popular vote WIN.

I hope 2018 starts a reset of this entire monstrosity. They are governing as if no one is even paying attention. All they have to do is turn on a TV to see thousands if not millions of people in the street protesting this administration. How many protesters where in the streets over Hillary’s emails? Just chaffetz.

  6. Budda February 9th, 2017 at 10:10

Chaffetz is a GOP hack. He’ll do what ever his told to do.

  7. Mike February 9th, 2017 at 11:15

If you think that’s a hard hitting interview, we’re in trouble….I hit my students with tougher questions and would never let them slip in BS like labeling the opposition as “exploding heads” (projection?) or get away with crap like “fishing expedition” …. you mean like the 3 year deep sea safari you took on Hillary’s dime and still came up empty??? How much did that cost again…???

    Wolf is an embarrassment.

  8. Guy Lauten February 9th, 2017 at 11:23

    what about the emails?

    • bpollen February 10th, 2017 at 04:24

A guy by the name of Ben Mallicote posted this on Facebook. Kinda pertinent.

“You voted for Trump because Clinton was going to be in Wall Street’s pocket. Trump wants to repeal Dodd-Frank and eliminate the Fiduciary Rule, letting Wall Street return to its pre-2008 ways.

You voted for Trump because of Clinton’s emails. The Trump administration is running its own private email server.

You voted for Trump because you thought the Clinton Foundation was “pay for play.” Trump has refused to wall off his businesses from his administration, and personally profits from payments from foreign governments.

You voted for Trump because of Clinton’s role in Benghazi. Trump ordered the Yemen raid without adequate intel, and tweeted about “FAKE NEWS” while Americans died as a result of his carelessness.

You voted for Trump because Clinton didn’t care about “the little guy.” Trump’s cabinet is full of billionaires, and he took away your health insurance so he could give them a multi-million-dollar tax break.

You voted for Trump because he was going to build a wall and Mexico was going to pay for it. American consumers will pay for the wall via import tariffs.

You voted for Trump because Clinton was going to get us into a war. Trump has provoked our enemies, alienated our allies, and given ISIS a decade’s worth of recruiting material.

You voted for Trump because Clinton didn’t have the stamina to do the job. Trump hung up on the Australian Prime Minister during a 5pm phone call because “it was at the end of a long day and he was tired and fatigue was setting in.”

You voted for Trump because foreign leaders wouldn’t “respect” Clinton. Foreign leaders, both friendly and hostile, are openly mocking Trump.

You voted for Trump because Clinton lies and “he tells it like it is.” Trump and his administration lie with a regularity and brazenness that can only be described as shocking.

Let’s be honest about what really happened.

The reality is that you voted for Trump because you got conned. Trump is a grifter and the American people were the mark. Now that you know the score, quit insisting the con-man is on your side.”

      • granpa.usthai February 10th, 2017 at 07:47

the deplorables voted for trump because the urine colored orange blob was going to return the white people to their “rightful” place of the master race.

    • granpa.usthai February 10th, 2017 at 08:02

7 republican multi-million dollar investigations resulted in NOTHING.

the ‘good campaign device’ of LIAR FBI director comey (R) and LIAR SOH ryan (R) resulted in the findings of the FBI fabricating intentionally FALSE reports of the Clinton Foundation based entirely on a report from the Breitbart news agency, thus enticing the republican electoral to SELECT trump.

PS: this is apparently top secret stuff that the media isn’t suppose to report:

LADY CLINTON WON THE POPULAR VOTE BY 3,000,000.

Of course Trump is “exempt.” He’s a republican. Why would republicans have to obey the law? It would be unprecedented.

    • granpa.usthai February 10th, 2017 at 08:05

according to grifter snake oil salesman gingrich, trump IS the law.

taken no doubt from his earlier years as a student of POTUS Nixon’s White House.

  11. granpa.usthai February 10th, 2017 at 07:43

media needs to call this LIAR on his off the cuff remark that the ‘public’ overwhelming elected trump.

Lady Clinton WON the popular vote by 3,000,000.

the republican electoral SELECTED trump, not the ‘public’.
