Trump nominates judicial extremist Neil Gorsuch to Supreme Court

Posted by | January 31, 2017 20:15 | Filed under: Politics

The truth is, Gorsuch’s name was leaked this afternoon, so it’s no surprise.

Trump [announced his nomination of] Judge Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, Tuesday night at the White House.

The nomination of Gorsuch, a 49-year-old federal appellate judge from Colorado, gives Trump and Republicans the opportunity to confirm someone who could cement the conservative direction of the court for decades.

Gorsuch is a judicial extremist.

Nominating Gorsuch amounts to a declaration of war on women. Gorsuch was responsible for the lower court ruling in the Hobby Lobby case. You may recall that case provided privately held corporations with religious freedom protections as a basis to deny employees access to reproductive healthcare under the company’s healthcare plan. His strongest draw is perhaps as an opponent of the Chevron Doctrine, which holds that courts “should generally defer to agencies when the law authorizing a regulation is ambiguous.”

    “Extremist”
    Wow, insane editorializing there.

    • arc99 January 31st, 2017 at 20:28

Nowhere near as insane as claiming President Obama wanted to euthanize the elderly.

    • Obewon January 31st, 2017 at 20:30

Your gross ignorance is debunked herein e.g. “5 on a scale of 10”-Trump voting Atty on NPR. WaPo: Gorsuch would like to curb the deference that courts give to federal agencies and is most noted for a strong defense of religious liberty in cases brought by private companies and religious nonprofit groups objecting to the contraceptive mandate in the Affordable Care Act.

His mother was (R) Anne Gorsuch Burford, a lawyer and conservative Colorado legislator who was picked by President Ronald Reagan as the first woman to head the Environmental Protection Agency. Her tenure was short and rocky: She clashed with environmentalists and was cited for contempt of Congress in 1982 for refusing to turn over subpoenaed agency documents relating to hazardous waste sites. Although she was following the legal advice of the Justice Department, Burford was forced to resign when the administration gave up the fight. She died in 2004. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/a70b3291560cf9c3cd21dbca66ca8cb79296f82e2ada833802891663f71dd093.jpg https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/4b561b04035dc02fde7ce991a49ad15cbb35bdf72e670a5e1f42aca582895f14.png

When a judge rules that a non-religious based entity (in this case, Hobby Lobby) can impose their personal religious views on employees, yes… that’s extremist.
And unconstitutional, to be more exact.

      >> “Extremist”

Gorsuch thinks that a CEO has the religious right to micromanage his employee’s contraceptive coverage.

      Seems pretty extreme to me.

    • bpollen February 1st, 2017 at 04:11

Thinking that corporate freedom of religion trumps (see what I did there?) an individual’s rights of religion, that fits the very definition of “extremist.”

“Wow, insane editorializing there.” Yup, accurate descriptions are INSANE!

    • Mensa Member January 31st, 2017 at 22:12

I don’t think we can block him.

But we can hammer home his illegitimacy and extremism.

      • crc3 February 1st, 2017 at 09:37

Yes they can block and obstruct and they must do just that with no mercy. THIS IS WAR!!

Just once, I would like to hear Trump introduce someone to the media without a self-congratulatory layer of hyperbole.

Exactly, why did this have to be announced in a way that resembled a sideshow? He is making this whole “presidency” seem like a Hunger Game creation.

If Gorsuch or anyone else Trump would nominate, had any integrity he would have declined with a statement that called for Garland to be nominated.
But of course we are talking about a far right wing fanatic who cares about nothing and no one other than himself.
