Trump’s embarrassing Obamacare flip-flop

The reality presidency host’s team was going to cancel Obamacare sign-up ads

The move could negatively affect enrollment, given that many people wait until close to the Jan. 31 deadline to sign up.

Politico reported that even ads that have already been paid for have been canceled.

… and then abruptly reversed course.

The Trump administration has reversed plans to scrap all Obamacare outreach in the finals days of the law’s enrollment period, a day after the move sparked outcry from the law’s supporters and health insurers.

HHS officials on Friday said automatic phone calls and other online and digital outreach — including Twitter messages and emails — would continue through the Jan. 31 deadline for obtaining coverage.

Officials also said they were unable to pull back some HealthCare.gov radio and TV advertising that had been purchased by the Obama administration. HHS was able to cancel about $4 million to $5 million in ads, a spokesman said.

Kinda ironic that “free market” advertising throws a monkeywrench into plans to trash free-market-based health care. Speaking of which – here is an interesting bit of insight into why Republicans hate hate HATE Obamacare:

I think it is time to address to address the really black elephant in the room because it seems like people have been ignoring this humongous black elephant — that has an ass so big that it touches every corner of the room — for a long time. Donald Trump, Paul Ryan, 99 percent of the Republican Party (and its alt-right rejects) are so anxious to get rid of the Affordable Care Act for one reason: It’s called Obamacare.

Remember where that name came from/ GOP “experts” who though renaming it would hurt the idea. Can you say “backfired bigly”? But it was not about Obama himself – it was about…

We all saw this on that “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” episode a few years back. Kimmel interviewed people on the street, asking them if they prefer Obamacare or the Affordable Care Act. Every white person on the film chose the Affordable Care Act, possibly because it sounds more American than socialist-like Obamacare, not knowing that they are the exact same thing. They heard a black name and instantly ran away from the product. It didn’t matter if the policy made sense or not because in America, “black” equals “bad.”

If Trump, Ryan and rest of the “I don’t have a racist bone in my body” white politicians really cared about all of the Americans who benefit from Obamacare, they wouldn’t cancel it. They could take their favorite parts of the bill and construct a newer version of the Affordable Care Act and even keep the cool “Obamacare” nickname, without the lapse in coverage that millions of Americans are about to face. But no. Can’t have a black guy’s name and legacy attached to one of the most important bills in the history of our country.

The easiest thing to do would be, start calling it Trumpcare..
Without even changing a thing, they would fall in love with it.

It’s basically Romneycare, but who cares?

They may have placed themselves between a rock and a hard place.I recently read an article(I forget where but it seemed credible) that indicated behind closed doors many Repubs are panicking due to the building backlash that they do not have a credible,or any, replacement plan.

Of course they’re panicking. They sold a bill of goods without a solid plan to back up a promise. They repeated “repeal and replace” endlessly while knowing they had nothing to replace the ACA with. This is a wholly GOP-created mess. It’s only now that they’re beginning to consider the electoral downside of their propaganda hit on the ACA. Now that it’s accountability time, they’re being forced to deal with the lies they’ve told about the law, and they don’t know which way to turn or what to do.

The race of the guy in the WH has always been the “black elephant” in the room in regard to the ACA even though GOPers spent eight years lying about it. Many of those who voted for Trump and GOPers in Congress have health insurance through Obamacare, but it was marketed to them under another name in their states. I have zero sympathy for those who are to d*mn lazy to do their homework before they race into the voting booth and vote against their own interests. I’ll have my retired employee state-provided healthcare to the end of my days, and if they lose theirs, it’s on them. Sometimes, it does turn out that ignorance bears a negative cost as a consequence of one’s actions.
