Repeal would leave 18 million uninsured in a year

Posted by | January 17, 2017 18:30 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

They don’t know the consequences of what they want to do.

-premiums in the individual insurance marketplaces would soar — they’d go up 20 to 25 percent above currently projected increases in the first full year after repeal, and “would about double by 2026”;

-and access to coverage on the individual markets would plummet — about half of the US population would live in areas “that would have no insurer participating” in the individual market, CBO projects.

    Get government out of the health insurance market.

    • mea_mark January 17th, 2017 at 19:44

      The government should provide free basic care to all, there should be no market for the basics. Let the market place have the discretionary extras and keep the government out of that.

      • TKList January 17th, 2017 at 19:48

        That kind of thinking is what got us in the mess we are in now.

        • Obewon January 17th, 2017 at 19:58

          That’s why the ACA mandates in NYC $350/Mo HC without subsidy. But that same Bronze plan in ‘No Medicaid expansion NJ’ is $604/Mo +$15/Mo Dental = $183/yr w/o subsidy. I paid in advance:)

          No, allowing insurance companies to be for profit and the greed of drug manufacturers along with the lack of basic medical care for all got us into this mess. That and the insane idea that cutting taxes while waging war and increasing spending will improve the economy. All through the Obama years the Repubs harped on the deficit and the debt, when it has been pointed out that repealing ACA will drive up both, the deficit and debt are no longer important, just like when Bush was President.

          92% insurance coverage! Oh, the horror! Quite the “mess” we’ve gotten ourselves into, Stanley! It was SO much better when the uninsured rate was 15%, rather than the current horrible state of 8.6%! SOOOO much better when having acne could prevent you from getting healthcare!

        • mea_mark January 18th, 2017 at 10:19

          I disagree. My line of thinking gets us out of the mess we’re in. The mess starts with all the wasted time and money on insurance sales people and the bean counters. Those jobs do nothing to uplift humanity, they are dragging us down and wasting resources. It’s time to fire them all.

      Here’s what YOU Somalians (Koch Oil & Coal sucker Libertarians) advocate:

      -18 million more people would become uninsured in the first full year after the bill’s enactment — rising to 32 million more people by 2026;

      -premiums in the individual insurance marketplaces would soar — they’d go up 20 to 25% above currently projected increases in the first full year after repeal, and “would about double by 2026”;

      -and access to coverage on the individual markets would plummet — about half of the US population would live in areas “that would have no insurer participating” in the individual market, CBO projects. (R) Libertarians are Baby Killers! Having elected nobody nationally, Libertarians are thankfully extinct. Move to ‘no functioning federal government Somalia!’ https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/4b561b04035dc02fde7ce991a49ad15cbb35bdf72e670a5e1f42aca582895f14.png

      Get government right wing mythology out of the health insurance market.

      Every other western industrialized nation on the planet has some sort of universal health insurance either wholly or partially funded by government.

      It never occurred to me that American exceptionalism actually meant being the only country not to do what is best for its people.

      • TKList January 17th, 2017 at 21:34

        If every other western industrialized nation on the planet had some form of sharia law should we follow suit?

        • arc99 January 17th, 2017 at 21:37

          No.

          Next irrelevant question.

        • arc99 January 17th, 2017 at 21:40

          In fact, the country least likely to adopt Sharia law has an excellent system America should emulate

          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Healthcare_in_Israel

          Health care in Israel is universal and participation in a medical insurance plan is compulsory. All Israeli citizens are entitled to basic health care as a fundamental right. The Israeli healthcare system is based on the National Health Insurance Law of 1995, which mandates all citizens resident in the country to join one of four official health insurance organizations which are run as not-for-profit organizations, and are prohibited by law from denying any Israeli citizen membership. Israelis can increase their medical coverage and improve their options by purchasing private health insurance.[

            The best system is the market system with a safety net only for those who need it.

            • arc99 January 17th, 2017 at 22:28

              Millions of us in this country, along with the rest of the western world disagree.

              • TKList January 17th, 2017 at 22:46

                Well the system is about to change to less government control, so we will all know after a few years if it is for the better.

                • Red Mann January 17th, 2017 at 23:59

                  No, the system is about to change to more government control and more government interference, but it’s the kind of control and interference the right likes because it mitigates against minorities.

                  That was the point of my references to Israel and western Europe. We already have a number of real world examples demonstrating that that the doom and gloom scenarios portrayed by the American right are false narratives. Our closest allies from Australia to Japan to our NATO allies all have some form of mandatory universal health care. It works and there are numerous examples demonstrating that.

                  After a few years, the test will be if the GOP can equal the results of our closest political, economic and cultural allies where government is a fundamental component in health insurance.

                  “the system is about to change to less government control”…
                  In your wildest dreams…

            • Red Mann January 17th, 2017 at 23:58

              Absolute nonsense, the market will push money to the top and screw over everyone else. This foolish belief in the magical Free Market is a delusion.

            • bpollen January 18th, 2017 at 06:19

              Facts, figures, corroboration, examples, details, etc? Got any?

              You SAY it, but you just don’t seem to be able to justify, corroborate, support, or provide data for your premise. Without facts, there is no reason to believe YOU on the subject. Your repeated posting of the same exact argument, each time with NOTHING other than YOUR opinion and YOUR rhetoric results in each iteration of this spiel actually DETRACTING from your credibility on the issue.

              Those who CAN, back up their positions. Those that CAN’T just repeat the same “voter fraud is an epidemic!” type of non-factual but exceptionally empty fercockta rhetoric.

          like this. you people never look at yourselves in the mirror.

        • Red Mann January 17th, 2017 at 23:56

          False equivalence. The things mothers say to kids “If everybody else did thus and so, would you do it too”. The rest of the civilized world has decent healthcare for all because it’s the decent thing to do. Only in greedy, Bible-thumping America are the poor left to suffer and the right wants more suffering. Unfortunately, this authoritarian, anti-empathy attitude is spreading like a virus around the world driven by fantastic lies, hate and fear.
