Trump vows ‘insurance for everybody’ with Obamacare replacement

Posted by | January 16, 2017 08:30 | Filed under: Politics

No specifics, of course.

Trump did not give the newspaper specifics about his proposals to replace Democratic President Barack Obama’s signature health insurance law, but said the plan was nearly finished and he was ready to unveil it alongside the leaders of the Republican-controlled Congress. The Republican president-elect takes office on Friday.

“It’s very much formulated down to the final strokes. We haven’t put it in quite yet but we’re going to be doing it soon,” Trump told the [Washington] Post, adding he was waiting for his nominee for health and human services secretary, Tom Price, to be confirmed.

The plan, he said, would include “lower numbers, much lower deductibles,” without elaborating.

“We’re going to have insurance for everybody,” Trump said. “There was a philosophy in some circles that if you can’t pay for it, you don’t get it. That’s not going to happen with us.”

Talk is cheap…and this guy lies a lot.

  2. The Original Just Me January 16th, 2017 at 08:36

Yup, Trump promises ” Outrageous Insurance Costs for Everybody” OH, there will be an exclusion. If you are Filthy Rich, the Government will provide YOU with FREE Medical Care.

  3. mea_mark January 16th, 2017 at 09:02

That would be nice. I am not going to hold my breath though, waiting for it. If he comes up with a medicare for all the poor without any exclusions that would be a nice step toward single payer. A voucher insurance program for the poor though I think would be a disaster. There would be too many ways to get out of helping the poor with necessary treatments to make it work.

    • Larry Schmitt January 16th, 2017 at 09:12

It would also break the budget.

      • mea_mark January 16th, 2017 at 11:27

It could be done, but we would need to change the way money is created. Allowing private industry (banks) to create most of the money through loans and fractional banking has to end. We need to create sovereign money through the government and introduce it into the system through basic income and other welfare programs.

It’s a complicated subject and i’m not going to go into detail now. I can only type with my right hand today, … injury.

        • SteveD January 17th, 2017 at 00:34

          1. The notion that reserve balances are required initially to finance bank balance sheet expansion via rising excess reserves is inapplicable. A bank’s ability to expand its balance sheet is not constrained by the quantity of reserves it holds or any fractional reserve requirements. The bank expands its balance sheet by lending to creditworthy customers. Loans create deposits.

          2. The federal government does not run on loans nor does it borrow its own sovereign currency:

‘Let me begin with a nation’s sovereign credit rating. When there is confidence in the integrity of government, monetary authorities— the central bank and the finance ministry—can issue unlimited claims denominated in their own currencies and can guarantee or stand ready to guarantee the obligations of private issues as they see fit. This power has profound implications for both good and ill for our economies . Central banks can issue currency, A NON-INTEREST BEARING CLAIM on the government, effectively without limit.’-Alan Greenspan, Aug. 1997

I understand that. I was trying to overly simplify to make a point. Left hand is useless for typing. Would love to continue this convo in a couple days when I can type with both hands.

Sounds great…but Trump lies about everything so I’ll believe it when I see it

  5. oldfart January 16th, 2017 at 09:33

    It better be GREAT…
And I’m not holding my breath.

  6. anothertoothpick January 16th, 2017 at 09:52

The fact of the matter is this could be achieved in one three word sentence.

    Medicare for All.

  7. Willys41 January 16th, 2017 at 10:39

Sure, insurance for Trump. For his kids. Everybody.

The rest of the world can go screw themselves.

  8. labman57 January 16th, 2017 at 10:45

“Insurance for everyone” — jotting down a catchphrase on a napkin does not constitute a PLAN.

  9. Buford2k11 January 16th, 2017 at 10:55

At this point, I don’t want anything from the illiterate and illegitimate trump…only his leaving office will suffice…

    • mea_mark January 16th, 2017 at 11:29

If he pushes for liberal ideas like this, the GOP will impeach him in a hurry.

      • Snick1946 January 16th, 2017 at 22:46

Sure but wouldn’t it be funny if he does go single payer?

        • cococo January 20th, 2017 at 08:37

It would be great but, Trump is too dependent on approval. He would be met with howls of disapproval from the GOP.

    • StoneyCurtisll January 16th, 2017 at 19:02

      leaving office, in disgrace…:)

      • bpollen January 18th, 2017 at 05:12

I’d settle for leaving office in a limo, just as long as he leaves.

  10. basedonfact January 16th, 2017 at 15:16

Sure. Insurance for everybody. You just have to sign a 1 billion year contract to give all your earnings to Trump

  11. arc99 January 16th, 2017 at 16:47

Insurance for everybody sure sounds a lot like universal single payer.

  12. KABoink_after_wingnut_hacker January 16th, 2017 at 17:14

You’re a real sucker if you believe this feeble attempt to quell the growing national demonstrations.

I’m sorry as a mere ex-pat Scotsman, please explain to me why insurance for everybody is better than healthcare for everybody. Isn’t that like the biblical practice of selling indulgences or a protection racket – we’ll allow you to live but you have to pay off these guys in pin-stripe suits before the guys in white gowns can even look at you – and the guys in white gowns have to pay up too.

    • Mike January 16th, 2017 at 17:57

Welcome to America where restricting access to healthcare is a signature component of the capitalist doctrine.

  14. robert January 16th, 2017 at 18:38

    Easy fix

Get with Paul Ryan who said he already has a replacement

  15. StoneyCurtisll January 16th, 2017 at 18:50

And does anyone really believe this?

  16. StoneyCurtisll January 16th, 2017 at 19:09

    Lies Lies Lies Yeah…

    What’s Oamacare?

    • Mensa Member January 16th, 2017 at 19:24

You must be a Trump voter.

      • John January 16th, 2017 at 19:52

No, just trying to figure out if that’s what Trump is calling it, or if the person writing the article needs help spelling Obamacare.

      • John January 16th, 2017 at 19:54

        By the way, nice mullet!

    • The Original Just Me January 17th, 2017 at 04:29

It is a new Disease afflicting Trump Voters. It makes them wake up and realize how Fu**ed They are and that Thinking People don’t give a $hit about them.

      • John January 17th, 2017 at 07:01

It seems that the majority of people can’t think for themselves in your country.

  18. Mensa Member January 16th, 2017 at 19:25

Trump has never spent one minute worrying about his own healthcare.

I don’t believe, for a second, that he understands the issue for people like you and me.

    • The Original Just Me January 17th, 2017 at 04:25

Your body doesn’t wear out as bad if you do no work in your life.

    • Snick1946 January 17th, 2017 at 11:21

Nor has Ryan, IMO. He’s a Gym Rat in disgustingly good health who probably comes from a family just as healthy. well and good but it doesn’t probably make him very likely to feel empathy toward people who need help,

      • cococo January 23rd, 2017 at 12:53

Don’t forget his father died young.

Government is about half the health insurance market with Medicare, Medicaid and the VA. This is why the health insurance market is not functioning like a normal market in any other industry.

Get government out of the health insurance business as much as possible. Limit them to limited regulation and financial support for health insurance to those who need it.

Obamacare, Medicaid, Medicare and VA hospitals should be phased out. People under these programs and those who are financially below the poverty level should be given a yearly amount that they could use to purchase health insurance.

Keep the federal regulation stating that insurance companies have to cover pre-existing conditions as long as the person had previous insurance.
Allow people to purchase insurance from any state. Deregulate state health insurance markets. Unhinge medical insurance from employers in the tax code.

Getting government out and increasing competition in this way will lower health insurance costs. It cuts the bureaucracy costs, cuts the fraud costs and improves competition and quality of care.

    • bpollen January 16th, 2017 at 20:30

You’ve posted this EXACT spiel, almost if not verbatim. It wasn’t convincing then, it’s even less convincing now.

“VA hospitals should be phased out. “

Hey, way to THANK those who risked their lives and bodies so you could treat them like a pawn. The thing is, the same people who freakin’ starved the VA of the funds necessary to complete their mission (a common practice amongst the participants) are the ones talking about privatizing it… and spending even MORE for that healthcare (insurance has to make a profit, after all) while forcing the PATIENTS to pay for what is supposed to be free healthcare. Sure, we made promises to those vets, committed to providing healthcare in return for service, but that shouldn’t stand in the way of doing the bidding of the insurance companies, eh? Screw you, you 9 million vets per year who visit the VA. We have some magical, totally undeveloped and unrealized vague suggestion of a plan that will be “bigly better!”

Get insurance companies out of healthcare.

      • TKList January 16th, 2017 at 20:50

And you responded with the same nonsense, fearmongering.

        • bpollen January 17th, 2017 at 00:49

Nope. Not fearmongering. But, hey, accurately depicting anything is not really your forte.

I responded with the same nonsense because it STILL debunks the crapola you spew. As a vet, as a man who works every day with vets, as a man who supports vets, as a man who supports the VA and its mission, as a man with over 30 years experience working in hospitals, I know quite well just how factually and morally bereft your position is.

If the counter to your BS works, why change it? You tell us WHAT we should do (get the profit motive involved – that’ll fix it!) and neglect to tell us WHY, HOW it would work, WHAT the benefits are, where the funding comes from, and how you can justify throwing vets to the wolves. All you give is “gubmint bad, private bidness good.” But the “bidness good” part is pure poppycock. As an article from March of 16 says about New York ALONE: “Scores of health insurers that sell Medicare Advantage and Part D plans have been slapped with fines in the past several months” One state over a few months for only one small portion of healthcare resulted in over $13 million in fines. For NONCOMPLIANCE. Yeah, of COURSE you can trust the insurance companies – just look at that track record.

Hang On, Nurse Ratched is on her way with your Meds.

    • Sy Colepath January 17th, 2017 at 09:38

“Allow people to purchase insurance from any state.” AND “Deregulate state health insurance markets.”

      Now there’s a formula for success….NOT!

    • mea_mark January 17th, 2017 at 10:16

All it really does is provide lots of jobs for computers counting dollars extracted from the poor for the benefit of the rich. The bills generated by computers will be never ending. You see a doctor once and you will see bills for the rest of your life. Lack of regulation and reliance on a free market filled with scammers leads to a dystopian society.

  20. dewired4u January 16th, 2017 at 20:10

Yep and your new insurance card will be as good as a degree from trump u.
