Jewish family flees home after Breitbart blames them for canceled Christmas play

Of course, Breitbart got its facts wrong.

A Jewish family has temporarily left its Lancaster County, Pennsylvania home, citing fear of retribution after coming under fire from conservative news outlets that blamed it for the cancellation of an elementary school production of “A Christmas Carol.”

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the family told LancasterOnline in an interview published Wednesday that they did not complain about the Centerville Elementary School play or ask for its cancellation. Instead, they said they requested that their fifth-grade child be excused from the production. They said the school granted that request, but that their child was harassed by classmates after the play was canceled in November…

The Hempsfield School District said in a statement that it has received at least 200 emails and phone calls about the decision to cancel the play in light of that national attention. According to the statement, the play was “absolutely not” canceled because of complaints about the “God bless us” line and “had nothing to do with a religious concern.”

“As we have already shared, the decision was not influenced by parents,” the statement read. “It became clear that the teachers had concerns about committing roughly 20 hours of instructional time to something that is not part of the fifth grade curriculum.”

The family that spoke with LancasterOnline said they pulled their child out of school and temporarily left the area after reading comments on the Breitbart story that speculated about obtaining and publishing their address.

To hell with the facts, let’s all go with the knee je*k reaction based on a completely untrue rumor, and let’s blame a family that had nothing to do with the outcome. Welcome to the new America, everyone. How many death threats did they receive? Because that’s the totally reasonable response to any trivial event that upsets you.

I wonder if Breitbart could/should be held accountable in a civil action? This nonsense has got to stop or it will eventually lead to something nasty.

They will have more time in the future. The biology class will take 5 minutes to teach and everyone could get an A. Here it is; God created everything, nothing has changed, nothing ever will.
Don’t worry about getting p!ssed on now, your reward will be after your dead. So die already and stop complaining.

    More inadvertent wisdom from Matthew.
7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
7:17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
7:18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
7:19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

Can’t you feel the warmth of all that Christian love?

whenever someone has to make it a point to tell me that they are a “christian,” is when i feel obligated to tell them they are nothing but a hypocrite. a true Christian needs not to advertise.

Generally, true Christians LIVE their faith. Some seem real big on talking about their faith, and thumping their chests over their piety, and thinking about how that faith separates and exalts them over others. Kind of a Christ Supremacist attitude.

    fake news alert.

“News reports alleging that a Jewish family has ‘fled’ Lancaster County are untrue and damaging,” said Nancy Baron-Baer, ADL Regional Director. “We spoke with the family, who explained that they went on a previously-planned vacation for the holidays. Stories like this can sow fear in the Jewish community and beyond, and it is important to stop the spread of misinformation.

“There is no truth to the rumor that the school cancelled A Christmas Carol at the request of parents. The Hempfield School District released a FAQ clearly stating that the play was cancelled due to the inordinate amount of class time taken up by rehearsals. We commend the district for setting the record straight.”
