John Glenn dead at 95

Posted by | December 8, 2016 16:24 | Filed under: Politics

Former Senator and astronaut John Glenn has died. He was the first person to orbit the earth.

Glenn was the last surviving member of the original Mercury astronauts. He would later have a long political career as a U.S. senator, but that didn’t stop his pioneering ways.

Glenn made history a second time in 1998, when he flew aboard the shuttle Discovery to become the oldest person to fly in space.

Glenn was 95 when he died; he had been hospitalized in an Ohio State University medical center in Columbus since last week.

Glenn had been battling health issues since a stroke a few years ago. His death Thursday was confirmed by Hank Wilson, communications director of the John Glenn College of Public Affairs at the Ohio State University.

I think Col. Glenn’s passing is highly symbolic. There once was a time in this country when we could put politics aside, and just celebrate the accomplishments of America, no matter who was running the government.

I fear those days are gone forever. I remember the pride I felt as a 9 year old kid hearing the news about Col. Glenn’s Mercury mission. Now everything is seen through partisan eyes and nothing is to be celebrated unless the right people are in charge.

We all have our opinions on who is most responsible for this unfortunate schism in American culture. This story represents my opinion. RIP Colonel.

Because the black president is from Chicago, they hate Chicago, and are happy when Chicago doesn’t succeed. Forget what’s good for the country, it’s all about the black president failing. And nothing they could say would ever convince me that it’s not all about race. They are small, petty people.

My daughter just came home from school. “Amber, America’s most famous astronaut, John Glenn has just died.”
“‘Old news,’ she replied. Just another morbid fantasy for all you geezers to memorialize about. Everybody knows, that the space program was as phony as a….as a….Trump presidency…a complete fiction.” She then slammed her bedroom door, so she could text with her best friends.

does she not understand that without the satellites put in orbit by the “phony” space program, her cell phone likely would not work?

“False Flag”. Do you, or she listen to, or watch conspiracy promoters GOP TV FNC, Alex Jones, Breitbart, ABC, or FaceBook faux news?

The very idea of sitting on top of a huge tube filled with explosive fuel and being propelled into space..
    Orbiting the Earth..
And then having to fall back to earth while the capsule you are encased in is only a few degrees left or right from being turn into a cinder…
Glenn must have had balls of steel..

“He was the first person to orbit the earth.” Um, nope, he was the first American to orbit the Earth. He was a great pilot, great astronaut, public servant, dedicated husband, great man. We need more like him.

For my generation, astronauts were demigods. It seems naive, now, but we smitten.

I also love that he was a Democrat. Whenever Ann Coulter or Michael Savage call Democrats traitors and cowards, they are talking about John Glenn — a guy who makes those two look like Gollum.

    God speed, John Glenn.
