I just stepped in from a walk, and here is https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/08c237cd8dda6e00cbee7eb4672cfde2bc8ab5c80d4326bb3d646bddf73de1ff.jpg the last light of 2016 fading into the darkness of a new year…Here’s to wishing that I will face this upcoming year, with my friends and fellow travelers on this Planet Earth, right here at Alan.com…And that we continue our honest commentary….this is a path that cannot be traveled alone, we all need the support of others of this community…and I thank you all for your support these past months…

      Right on~!

    • Hirightnow December 31st, 2016 at 19:24

      What camera are you using?

      • Buford2k11 December 31st, 2016 at 19:51

        I use a Nikon d610 with a Nikor 70-300mm 4.5-5.6 lens…

        • Hirightnow December 31st, 2016 at 20:16

(wipes laptop off) That’s…that’s a good camera (huff huff).
No, srsly, the best I ever had was a Pentax Ksomethingorother, so I could take pictures from Vulture’s row of sunsets.. you should do this for cash, IMHO.

          • Buford2k11 December 31st, 2016 at 22:31

Yes, It is a really nice camera…I have a Nikon d90 as well…I have sold some photos, online, I have worked on a couple of campaigns, I have a couple of magazine covers, and one CD cover for a local musician…so, I have dabbled in the retail market, but MY photography is sports photography, that is were I seem to be fairly decent…I give away most of my stuff…I am still not happy with my work, all of the time…that is why you may notice that I repeat shots, at different times, lighting, framing, etc…the D610 is a blessing and a curse…It is such a nice camera, it really captures a fine photo…but on the other hand, it really shows all your flaws as a photographer…but I like BIG photos…I like to blow them up to 24×36…I have projected a few of my better landscapes onto a wall ten by ten…Wow…it is impressive…

            • Hirightnow December 31st, 2016 at 22:37

Do not sell yourself short, Buford2k11…you have what those of us who aren’t in the business refer to as “talent”! There is a market for what you shoot.
And as an aside,I love your photos.

              • Buford2k11 December 31st, 2016 at 22:48

thank you for those kind words…I work about as much as I want to…there are several younger women around here, who are working hard to establish themselves…I don’t take their work, I tell them that I support them and I love to work with them…they do weddings, and the standard fare…I am not your normal photog…I like to think of myself as an “artist working in digital photography”…I am still struggling with trying to get what I “SEE” and what the camera SEE’s to be the same thing…I am having fun tho…

                • Hirightnow December 31st, 2016 at 22:51

                  .I am having fun tho…

                  That’s all that matters,friend.
Be well in the new year.

            • Hirightnow December 31st, 2016 at 23:15

You can take 40 shots of the same hillside…but that one shot is the one.

              • Buford2k11 December 31st, 2016 at 23:45

Sometimes it is really hard to make that call…Sometimes folks chose a photo that I think is not a particularly good effort, and they may not chose the ONE I would consider to be the one I would consider…That is why I really don’t like doing retail photography…having to deal with people…so, I stick to the photos that I like, and let them chose from there…I have over three terabytes of photos, and looking for another three terabyte drive to start filling…I am starting to teach my thirteen year old grandson how to drive…so I can take photos…but the kid can spot photos, now, and some of the photos in my galleries, are by his direction…He gets nervous with the 610, but he is starting to learn it…

    • Clementine January 2nd, 2017 at 11:08

That is stunning, thanks for the beautiful picture.

Think they’d hire me? I’m no sextician, “…but I know what goes where, and why”. ( Quote from on of my favorite Gene Wilder films)

    • Clementine January 2nd, 2017 at 18:19

I’m sure they’d hire you! Be sure to share the job application with us when you go for it. It will be a doozy. :-) Darn it, Gene Wilder, a huge loss in this year of losses.
Since you are mod………I know I skirted real close to the edge of snarky innuendo on this one, but was surprised that it went into moderation for such a long time. Can you give me a heads up as to which filter I ticked off? It’s never my intention to cross the line. Much. :-)

      • Hirightnow January 2nd, 2017 at 18:51

The popular shortening of the Anglic name “Richard” will do it every time.
As for why it took so long, we keep odd hours around here, and nobody makes the coffee.
(Kidding; I do this from home)

        • Clementine January 2nd, 2017 at 19:37

;-) OK, thanks. I will keep that in mind when discussing Nixon, Cheney, Morris, the 2 Darrens, and of course……..Trump. All shortened Richards. (Except, I like the Darrens).

NBC is the beneficiary while fox gets a reality check

    https://www.google.com/amp/mobile.nytimes.com/2017/01/03/business/media/megyn-kelly-nbc-fox-news.amp.html

    • Clementine January 6th, 2017 at 07:17

I don’t know. Fox seems immune to reality checks, and I think it discredits NBC for taking on a Fox shill, no matter how much more muted her crazy conservatism was as compared to a Hannity. It’s a matter of degrees, and she still falls into the bucket of batshit. By being a “Fox Darling” we already know that she is not a journalist who values the spirit of real journalism. She’s a personality, with an agenda. This sick, profit driven need for networks to push this kind of ratings crap is what hurts us as citizens, and allowed the fake news, and no facts crowd to flourish. We need the Edward R. Murrows, not the Kelly’s.

      • robert January 6th, 2017 at 08:23

That might be true to a point, I think some TV personalities have a choice weather they want to go with that network’s agenda or take their own path. Greta and Gretchen have already decided and now Megyn The worm is starting to turn and those who pay attention now should know what FN is all about. As far as NBC goes ,I don’t think they put up with gop crap long term If Megyn decides to go that route? She might be in company with ex ESPN sports personality who found his way out the door among others

I told ’em I lost my contact lens, and they started to look for it…they can be easily fooled…like some of my other neighbors..

    • Larry Schmitt January 4th, 2017 at 10:04

But if any of them found it, you’d have to wait a few hours to get it back. And I’m not sure you’d really want it.

they never return my phone calls..

    • eyelashviper January 5th, 2017 at 16:20

We have a lot of wild turkeys in our area, and our peacocks, who are not the brightest birds, try to impress them, and it never ends well for the peacocks, who return looking very sad.
The crows here mimic the turkey calls, and when we hear the sounds coming from the tops of huge oaks, we know who it is….
Wild turkeys are very smart, most unlike their domestic relatives.

      • Buford2k11 January 5th, 2017 at 18:05

yes…Have you ever heard them take off and fly? when taking off, they sound almost like I do when trying get out of bed in the morning…a lot of grunting, cussing, and other animal noises…some think they are the Blue Angels, with close proximity flying, with all the appropriate close calls…or those quickly executed emergency landings, where they kinda strut around afterwards, hoping that no one was watching…
a friend of mine, used a scratchbox to call in a very angry, hen…oh my….she was a spoiling fer a fight…I haven’t seen the bigger Toms yet, they are around, I can hear ’em, but they are cagey and don’t like publicity…
