Suddenly deficits don’t matter to Trump and Republicans

They’ve put the deficit on the back burner.

For eight years, Republicans hammered President Barack Obama for exploding the national debt. But now a GOP-led spending spree is coming, with Donald Trump riding to the White House on trillion-dollar promises and a Republican Congress that looks likely to do his bidding. It’s a potential echo of the last time Republicans ran Washington, when then-Vice President Dick Cheney memorably remarked, “Deficits don’t matter.”

…“There is now a real risk that we will see an onslaught of deficit-financed goodies — tax cuts, infrastructure spending, more on defense — all in the name of stimulus, but which in reality will massively balloon the debt,” said Maya MacGuineas, president of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget.

The non-partisan group estimated Trump’s campaign proposals would increase the national debt by a whopping $5.3 trillion over the next decade. That would make the debt as a share of the economy rise from nearly 77 percent to 105 percent, a potentially dangerous level for the government.

Republicans know government spending boosts the economy, they just want to make sure they are in charge when it happens because they want the credit for boosting the economy. They really are selfish rat-bastards that care more about themselves then the people they are supposed to be governing.

Off topic: Did your “Pending” and “Approved” columns swap on the mod screen?

Here we go again. Another Reagan era of spending money on stupid sh*t. I hope he doesn’t re-commission World War II battleships like the Dutch did. They got seven feet to the gallon, but looked cool when the black powder (I’m not kidding, they used black powder sewn up inside silk bags) shot that 2000 pound slug of steel out of the guns that no one made parts for anymore. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/e4873ac4b4e309656cd92471aa7acc53461ce6621bf9119cecc2fc96aba43d3e.jpg

The republican party has been shattered and splintered
but one thing remains the same,
Leave the bill to their grandkids…
and blame the Democrat who inherits the office next.

yep. I forgot in my own rant, to add what you said in your last sentence. the party of personal responsibility will be sure to blame someone else for the damage they created.

Remember, it was former VP Cheney who said deficits don’t matter. He was correct. Deficits do not matter except to the low information voters who consider them a problem but only when a Democrat is in office.

This should surprise absolutely no one. I am not even sure it is worth getting pi$$ed off about anymore. To call Republicans hypocrites is a lot like calling the sky blue. Why state the obvious? Why get mad when they are doing what they always do?

We just had an election which demontrated quite clearly that two decades of yapping about “family values” was a crock of horsesh*t. These people do not care about family values in a political candidate. They care about winning elections. So the Pat Robertsons and the rest of that ilk, tie themselves into knots explaining why the candidate who says vile things about women, has a wife who was a nude model, and likes to grab pussy, deserves the vote of Evangelical Christians.

Deficits never did matter to Republicans. It was a bullsh*t campaign device that sounds good during a campaign which should be discarded as soon as the election is won. Then they can get on with the deficit spending they prefer which consists largely of billions of dollars to corporate defense contractors. Remember, according to the GOP when a tax dollar is to be spent on helping people, it must be paid for. It must not increase the deficit. When a tax dollar is to be used on killing people,no problem. We need a strong military and deficit be damned..

Look, you can check National Review and WSJ and no matter where you look you’ll find articles detailing how the economy always does better under Democrats because republicans inevitably cut taxes and increase spending and multiply the debt by orders of magnitude. So just face the fact: America is heading straight for the toilet.

The deficit and debt only matter when a black guy is in the White House.
