He played Napoleon Solo in the 1960’s series.

[Vaughn] died Friday at age 83 after a brief battle with leukemia.

“Mr. Vaughn passed away with him family around him,” his manager Matthew Sullivan told entertainment site Deadline. “The actor is survived by wife Linda, son Cassidy and daughter Caitlin.”

He became a household name for his Bond-esque role in NBC’s “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.,” where his suave Solo was paired with David McCallum’s blond Russian Illya Kuryakin to battle Cold War evildoers of T.H.R.U.S.H.

“Girls age 9 to 12 liked David McCallum because he was so sweet,” Vaughn said in a 2005 interview. “But the old ladies and the 13- to 16-year-olds liked me because I was so detached.

Vaughn, who was born in New York City, went to high school in Minneapolis and attended the University of Minnesota, but quit after a year and moved to Los Angeles, where he studied drama and completed his master’s degree. He also earned a Ph.D. in communications at USC.

A liberal Democrat, Vaughn became passionately opposed to the Vietnam War and delivered anti-war speeches around the country.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (before the spinoff nonsense Girl from Uncle), and I Spy were my two favorite TV shows when both were first run hit series.

Now, Robert Culp and Robert Vaughan are dead. Bill Cosby is a sexual predator, and David McCallum is playing an eccentric old coroner one of those CSI things…

They effed up the movies for both of those fine shows where there was not even an UNCLE organization in the film, and in I Spy, don’t even get me started on how they screwed that one up with Kelly Robinson as the black guy and Alexander Scott as the white guy.

Yes, reruns Warman, It is all we have …

Back in the 60’s and 70’s I could watch all sorts of classic movies on TV, not anymore without having to pay for it but I still have the memories, good times. A lot of movies and TV sucks these days but that’s corp. America for you.

This is really sad. I remember listening to one of his speeches when I was very, very young. A cool actor in a super cool role. One way or another, we’ll always have The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
