Justice Ginsburg appears to wear ‘dissent collar’

Posted by | November 9, 2016 15:24 | Filed under: Politics

This is the collar Ruth Bader Ginsburg wears when issuing dissenting opinions.

The move is being widely interpreted as a repudiation of Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election a night earlier.

Ginsburg typically wears the collar when issuing dissenting opinions in the court, as she explained to Yahoo News in 2014. But no opinions were read Wednesday.

Ginsburg made headlines over the summer when she publicly criticized Trump before later apologizing.

In an interview with The New York Times in July, she said she “can’t imagine what the country would be — with Donald Trump as our president.”

Doesn’t make any difference to Rump. He’s about to load up the Supreme Court with far right garbage…

From your keyboard to God’s monitor.

No, he will nominate those who will uphold Rule of Law. Rule of Law is neither “right” nor “left.” It is what a society has to have for liberty.

        Liar.

        • RightThinkingOne November 9th, 2016 at 21:35

Then, unfortunately, you do not understand what Rule of Law is. Sorry to know that.

        Bolony…

          What a sagacious rejoinder!

Please tell us what Rule of Law means in this context. Then, we can have a discussion.

that is what I am asking of you. What the hell is “rule of law”? as you so cleverly suggest.

I’ve already danced this tune. He’s just going too spin.

Interesting that you do not know what Rule of Law is. One simple part of it is that one goes by the law, and not the desired outcome.

But I will provide an example: Suppose you and I are in our, say, late 50s. In our mid-20s, we bought something (land, for example) together and signed a contract about its use. Attorneys were present, and it was all registered properly, etc.

Now, 3 decades later, one of us says, “Hey, the meanings of some words have changed in the past 10 years,” or, “There are some different values/attitudes today,” and thus tries to get out of the contract, to void it.

There is that choice by the judge: Does he go by the original agreement as LEGALLY agreed to and understood by both parties at the time of signing? Or does he go with the new terminology and apply it, and thus void the contract?

Of course, we can re-negotiate, and that is NOT the issue. And it is not about environment concerns or new state laws. If you choose to respond, please stay within the parameters and don’t insert new ones.

Just under two months after Donald J. Trump becomes the president of the United States of America, Ginsburg will turn 84. President Donald Trump will hopefully remain in office for 8 years, but even if he does not, Ginsburg will be 88 by the end of his first term, and 92 by the end of his second.

She will be replaced by someone who will actually upholds our Constitution.

    • StoneyCurtisll November 9th, 2016 at 21:27

Trump may actually replace Ginsberg with someone who will ignore the constitution and vote in favor of a president for life, (Donald Trump)..

Trump already shows shocking authoritarian tendencies..

This happens with surprising frequency in third world countries when newly elected despots who have no governing experience and voted in by low educated and voters who chose demagogues and populist leaders over their best interest..
Unless you are a fortune teller or psychic, (both of which are proven fake)..
You have no idea what Trump is going to, or might do..
      So STFUAH..
You have no idea what the future holds.

            Deflection. Illogic.

            • fahvel November 10th, 2016 at 04:47

illogic?? Nah, It should read defecation in reference to your leanings.

        • fahvel November 10th, 2016 at 04:46

which is? You continue to use phrases that reflect no information.

          • RightThinkingOne November 13th, 2016 at 18:26

Do you know what Original Understanding is?

    • fahvel November 10th, 2016 at 04:45

I’ve actually read your constitution – interesting document – you should try studying it and applying it in you neighborhood.

      • RightThinkingOne November 13th, 2016 at 18:24

Yes. Original Understanding is the key, and President-Elect Donald J. Trump has provided 20 names of people from whom he will chose for nomination to the Supreme Court. All adhere to Original Understanding.

Doesn’t matter. She said she would move to New Zealand if Trump won. I hope she’s packing.
