Trump believes First Amendment gives press ‘too much protection’

Posted by | October 24, 2016 12:42 | Filed under: Media/Show Business News Behaving Badly Politics

But nobody loves the freedom of the press more than Trump, says Trump.

Trump spoke with Jim DeFede on Sunday, and he was asked about whether he feels that “too much protection” is given to the free press. Trump affirmed his belief on this issue, stating that America should lean towards the United Kingdom’s system for libel because it gives people who sue media agencies “a good chance of winning.”

“Our press is allowed to say whatever they want and get away with it. And I think we should go to a system where if they do something wrong… I’m a big believer tremendous believer of the freedom of the press. Nobody believes it stronger than me but if they make terrible, terrible mistakes and those mistakes are made on purpose to injure people. I’m not just talking about me I’m talking anybody else then yes, I think you should have the ability to sue them.”

You think the UK’s libel system is better, why don’t you move there? Oh, that’s right, they won’t let you in. You can only win a libel suit if you prove what they said about you is not true. Good luck with that.

“In 1933 Freedom of the Press was suppressed in Hitler’s Germany by the Reichstag Fire Decree of President Paul Von Hindenburg, just as Adolf Hitler was coming to power. Hitler largely suppressed freedom of the press through Joseph Goebbels’ Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda.[21] The Ministry acted as a central control-point for all media, issuing orders as to what stories could be run and what stories would be suppressed. Anyone involved in the film industry—from directors to the lowliest assistant—had to sign an oath of loyalty to the Nazi Party, due to opinion-changing power Goebbels perceived movies to have. (Goebbels himself maintained some personal control over every single film made in Nazi Europe.) Journalists who crossed the Propaganda Ministry were routinely imprisoned.”

I have to wonder how long has trump the brainless lived in this country?

Seems like all this is new to him.

He’s always had high-priced lawyers to worry about this stuff for him.

Of course Rump doesn’t mention the fact that he has been allowed to say what he wants to say no matter how toxic. If someone put a muzzle on that pouting mouth of his I wouldn’t care in the least First Amendment or no First Amendment….

Is Trump stupid ? That is the very definition of our libel laws. And it’s not a ‘terrible, terrible mistake’ if it’s made ‘on purpose to injure people’ … that would be called ‘with malice’.

Trump uses the same language template no matter what the subject. Nobody respects or supports anything more than him, but if they don’t do what he wants he should be able to sue them into oblivion.
