Republicans suddenly want to approve Merrick Garland

Posted by | October 21, 2016 07:57 | Filed under: Politics

At least Arizona Republican Senator Jeff Flake sees the writing on the wall.

Flake has maintained for months that Republicans should take up Merrick Garland’s Supreme Court nomination if it looks like the presidential contest is a lost cause for the GOP.

It’s looking about that time, Flake said in an interview on Thursday.

“I said if we were in a position like we were in in ’96 and we pretty much knew the outcome that we ought to move forward. But I think we passed that awhile ago,” Flake said. “If Hillary Clinton is president-elect then we should move forward with hearings in the lame duck. That’s what I’m encouraging my colleagues to do.”

What a bunch of self serving cynical bastards republicans are.
This just proves once again, they have no interest in governing nor do they have the best interests of our nation at heart.
    All they crave is power.

The day after Clinton is elected, Obama should withdraw Garland’s nomination, and nominate a liberal judge instead.

great idea, but unfortunately, POTUS Obama cares more for our nation than joking around with our judicial future.

        republiCONs don’t.

Too bad – Hillary’s appointments to the Supreme court should be in this order.
    1. Barack Hussein Obama
    2. Elizabeth Warren
    3. Bernie Sanders
    4. Bill Maher ( just to mess with them).

      How about Mike Papantonio?

I doubt Obama would accept it but he would make a great S.C. justice.

I am not just saying that… I honestly believe it. Obama knows and respects the law while knowing and respecting the America people. And, he has the long view on history.

It’s the ideal combination of traits for a judge.

And he would not just be an automatic liberal vote. He would probably be a centrist.

This just highlights the naked GOP hypocrisy.

it makes sense to not confirm a justice during a lame duck session. Let the next elected leader make an appointment.

It didn’t make sense back in March!

The chance of seeing a nominee this old and moderate is disappearing. Snatch at the brass ring when you pass it this time, kids.
