Mom-to-be dies during miscarriage because doctor ‘conscientious objector’ to abortion

The doctor refused to terminate the pregnancy.

Italian prosecutors have opened an inquiry into the death of 32-year-old Valentina Milluzzo.

Her family have said the doctor treating her refused to abort the foetuses due to his beliefs, but Cannizzaro Hospital in Catania has rejected the claims…

The family’s lawyer said one of the unborn twins was suffering a breathing complication and alleges the gynaecologist refused to abort the foetuses in order to save the mother, according to the BBC.

‘As long as it’s alive, I will not intervene,’ the lawyer said, quoting the doctor.

Hours later, they were both stillborn, according to the lawyer.

Having lost her babies, the mother-to-be’s condition dropped again overnight and she died on October 16.

One suspects this story would warm the cockles of the most bigly Republican candidate ever.

I suspect his orangeness would say that her death is good because it saves the state from having to punish the woman for asking for an abortion.

I like this one from Sigmund Freud

“The more the fruits of knowledge become accessible to men, the more widespread is the decline of religious belief”

There are people so dumb they willingly reject “the fruits of knowledge”. Still, there seems to be a trend towards rejection of big religion. This issue is but one of many where religion will eventually lose. If they argue that we as a species were intelligently designed why would they have any problem with abortion ? The word “miscarriage” is just a nicer way of saying spontaneous abortion. Spontaneous abortions occur at a very high rate among humans. From Wikipedia:

Spontaneous abortion, also known as miscarriage, is the unintentional expulsion of an embryo or fetus before the 24th week of gestation. Only 30% to 50% of conceptions progress past the first trimester.[19] The vast majority of those that do not progress are lost before the woman is aware of the conception,[13] and many pregnancies are lost before medical practitioners can detect an embryo.[20] Between 15% and 30% of known pregnancies end in clinically apparent miscarriage, depending upon the age and health of the pregnant woman.[21] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abortion#Spontaneous

The ” intelligent designer” seems to be okay with it.

It really damages the ability to think critically and inhibits curiosity at the very least.

One would think that the tipping point from believing in myth a Nd intellectual curiosity would not be all that distant..

In Trump world this would have happened just the way it was supposed to.

Reminds me of the last time I went to a Catholic church. The priest was ranting about abortion. His stated that the day that Roe V Wade was handed down was a day that would live in infamy. Then he stated that the tragedy was not that the babies died but that they died unbaptized. I had to get up and leave. My husband and I waited outside for the rest of his family. That was so disgusting that we could not sit there and listen to that horrible drivel and horrible man anymore.

Well, yeah. It IS a tragedy that the babies weren’t baptized. Baptisms now cost up to $100 per baby, and they’re baptized in bulk. For instance, they’re usually held on Sundays, at least 7 babies are baptized at the same time, and the whole process takes about 1/2 hour. That’s $700.00 for 1/2 hour’s work. Talk about a lucrative (tax exempt, of course) business.
      .
Don’t think for one minute the Catholic church has any compassion for either the mother or the fetus. The mother is looked upon as a “baby making factory” and the fetus is nothing more than potential cash (and a bit more if the fetus is a boy).

Totally agree. It’s a money and control raising patriarchal institution.

“if you can’t save all three, let them all die together”. Yep, that sounds like something Jebus would’ve said to the pope. Personally, if this doctor doesn’t want to save lives, maybe he should get out of the lifesaving business.

I will never understand why a so-called doctor would choose to let the mother die rather than aborting a “child” that is causing her death. What kind of moral decision is that?

  7. Lyndia October 20th, 2016 at 21:16

This is horrible. Now, a 32 year-old woman is dead because of someone’s else belief. Why do some people try to shove their religion down your throat? Because you don’t believe in that garbage, that doesn’t mean EVERYBODY has to live their life the way YOU see fit.

Charge the doctor with murder. The doctor knowingly put her life at risk, and has a responsibility to do everything possible to protect her life – if that doctor is unwilling to do an action themselves, then they absolutely MUST act in the woman’s best interest and contact someone who is willing. Refusing to protect her life when in a situation in which they have a form of authority over her (in the form of being the doctor attending) isn’t manslaughter, or negligence, or any other lesser crime. It is murder, plain and simple.
