Chuck Berry with new album at 90

Posted by | October 18, 2016 16:52 | Filed under: Media/Show Business

It’s his first in 38 years.

Called simply “Chuck,” the album will consist mostly of new, original material recorded and produced by Berry, his record company said.

Berry’s children, Charles Berry Jr. on guitar and Ingrid Berry on harmonica, form part of his backing band on the record. The specific date of the album’s release was not mentioned.

“What an honor to be part of this new music,” Berry Jr. said in a statement. “The St. Louis band, or as dad called us the Blueberry Hill Band, fell right into the groove and followed his lead. These songs cover the spectrum from hard-driving rockers to soulful thought-provoking time capsules of a life’s work.”

Berry said he was dedicating the new album to his wife of 68 years, Themetta. “My darlin’ I’m growing old! I’ve worked on this record for a long time. Now I can hang up my shoes!” the musician said in a statement.

I’m 15 years his junior and grew up with his music. And music it was. Many of today’s “stars” can’t sing a lick, and I never hearf of Chuck and drugs in the same sentence.

Chuck Berry is the true King of Rock and Roll, not Elvis Presley.

I have read or listened to interviews with a number of the most prominent rock musicians since the 1960’s. From the Beatles to the Rolling Stones to the Who to U2 to Eric Claption and many more, they all cite Chuck Berry as one of their most important influences.

Exactly one mentioned Presley. U2 drummer Larry Mullen said he identified with the characters Presley played in some of those godawful movies..

On their very first American tour, the Beatles opened their 1964 show with the Chuck Berry tune, Roll Over Beethoven. Didn’t do any Elvis tunes, then or later.

It was racial politics in this country, not musical merit which bestowed the King title on Elvis. Real musicians knew the truth. Long live rock and roll, and long live Chuck Berry, the real King of Rock and Roll.

I don’t know if he was broke or what but Chuck Berry was a touring machine in the 1970s and I saw him a bunch of times.

And not at arenas — it was more like student lounges and high school cafeterias.

I thought he was old back then! But, he was awesome.

how a country that has produced Berry, Dylan etc could have produced what’s in the political world there is beyond understanding.
