Two cops fatally shot, one wounded in Palm Springs

The officers were responding to a family disturbance.

The suspect refused to let the officers into the house and threatened to shoot them behind the closed door.

Moments later, the gunman followed through on his threat, said Palm Springs Police Chief Bryan Reyes.

“Officers were near the front door trying to negotiate with the suspect just to comply,” said an anguished Reyes, his voice cracking. “It was a simple family disturbance and he elected to open fire on a few of the guardians of this city.”

Dozens of heavily-armed cops had surrounded the home where the suspect — a deranged man who reportedly expressed a desire to shoot cops — was believed to be holed up, Reyes said.

This is an example of why I don’t second guess cops. And Palm Springs isn’t exactly a ghetto , if you get my drift.

I would second guess their choice to continue standing in front of the door he just threatened to shoot them through. I don’t blame the cops, they didn’t deserve to get shot, but it was a horrible tactical decision.
