Legal expert: Anthony Weiner could face charges for underage sexting

Sexting with a 15-year-old? Not a good idea.

Weiner’s past indiscretions, whatever you think of them, weren’t necessarily crimes, but now, according to legal experts, he appears to have entered dicier territory, especially since he didn’t deny anything when he issued a statement to the Mail.

In a statement, Weiner wrote:

I have repeatedly demonstrated terrible judgement about the people I have communicated with online and the things I have sent. … I am filled with regret and heartbroken for those I have hurt. … While I have provided the Daily Mail with information showing that I have likely been the subject of a hoax, I have no one to blame but me for putting myself in this position. … I am sorry.

To determine exactly what kind of legal repercussions Weiner may be facing, LawNewz spoke to Areva Martin, a lawyer who specializes in women and children’s issues. While it’s unclear from the Mail’s report exactly what kind of photos and videos were exchanged, the girl’s claims that “[Weiner] would tell me to say his name as I was touching myself” and “He would ask me to take my clothes off” could still rise to the level of him committing a crime even if she didn’t comply.

Martin pointed out that both federally and in Weiner’s home state of New York, there are variations of laws against “promoting the sexual performance of a minor.” If the girl did end up complying with his requests, there could be other charges related to child pornography, especially if he recorded video the video to his computer.

He’s going to get buried in legal crap for years. And he should face criminal charges. Should he, I don’t see him living long enough to face pre-trial.

He has a n addiction in the true meaning of the word. Now involving a minor he’s turned it into a legal issue.Addictions only escalate, and that’s why he can’t control himself.

quite frankly, i wouldn’t bet that this was his only time. he needs prison time. period. i’m tired of giving people with money and power excuses for behavior that john doe would be crucified for. he’s not better than anyone else. if he’s sick, ok, take his ass and put him where he can’t harm another child. it’s called prison.

I doubt it would be his only time.It is probably a lifelong pattern. The “connected”,the rich and powerful, are pretty much all into some form of corruption and usually hide behind high priced lawyers.Look at all the financial crimes Trump has been accused of.Not only has he never paid a legal price for them, but then runs for president. The big banking thieves, same thing.

I’m showing my age, again, but:

    Bailiff, whack his pee-pee!

I’m sure he will face charges, and since he doesn’t belong to the “family values” party, they’ll throw the book at him.

I don’t want it to sound like I approve of this type of behavior, but why do republicans get a pass for inappropriate behavior, while democrats are read the riot act?
