Rubio: Women with Zika should not be permitted abortions

Posted by | August 7, 2016 08:59 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

Marco Rubio says pregnant women infected with the Zika virus which can cause debilitating birth defects should not be permitted to have abortions.

In an interview with Politico‘s Mike Caputo, Rubio said, “I understand a lot of people disagree with my view — but I believe that all human life is worthy of protection of our laws. And when you present it in the context of Zika or any prenatal condition, it’s a difficult question and a hard one. But if I’m going to err, I’m going to err on the side of life.”

Microcephaly involves severe deformities of the brain and skull and babies born with the condition begin their lives critically ill. Their care can run into hundreds of thousands of dollars or more in the first year of life alone.

“Obviously, microcephaly is a terrible prenatal condition that kids are born with. And when they are, it’s a lifetime of difficulties,” Rubio told Politico. “So I get it. I’m not pretending to you that that’s an easy question you asked me. But I’m pro-life. And I’m strongly pro-life. I believe all human life should be protected by our law, irrespective of the circumstances or condition of that life.”

Rubio said last year that he also opposes abortion access for women who have been the victims of rape or incest.

Of course Marco, some have been created just so they can live their long lives in a hospital hooked up to machines, God is great like that.

So I guess Marco will introduce a bill to fund the care of all these children, right?

Rubio proves time and time again he is unfit for public office. He doesn’t understand it’s not what he wants that takes precedence over all others. He’s a narrow minded fool….

“…I’m pro-life. And I’m strongly pro-life. I believe all human life should be protected by our law, irrespective of the circumstances or condition of that life.”

But he supports capital punishment…and doesn’t see the conflict in those two positions.

Double standards don’t apply. He will of course ignore the fact that hundreds of people who have been convicted of a capitol offense have been exonerated because of modern day DNA testing which proved them innocent…

And like any good fiscal conservative he ignores the costs

Florida is home to McPrisons and for profit justice.

He sees no double standard when he’s been paid well to establish it….

Too bad Rubio’s mother didn’t get an abortion.

Let’s have your wife give it a try and then get back to us a-hole.

straight to another country they will fly.

Anti abortion activists sometimes point to countries like Denmark, the Netherlands and Germany which are (in the eyes of the American right) are liberal on social issues but still impose a number of restrictions on abortions.

What is lost on these people is that those countries along with the rest of western Europe have universal health insurance. A medical condition of the fetus as a justification for an abortion is not as compelling an argument when lifetime medical care for the child is guaranteed and funded by the state.

But in this country, the pro forced birth advocates pretending to be pro life have only one agenda. Force the mother to carry the pregnancy to term. Whatever happens after that is her problem. Sen. Rubio’s comments simply confirm that.

if his wife was afflicted with this horrible problem while pregnant, he would fly her out of the damn country. a child born with this type of disability, is an emotional, physical, and mental wear and tear on the parent(s). i can’t imagine being forced to carry a child with this type of physical and mental issue. my former co-worker never, ever wanted children, but her husband (now divorced) begged her for a child. unfortunately, her child was born with a disfigurement and bone disease. her face and head is disfigured, she started having a menstrual cycle at the age of 9 months and started to develop breast. she is taking hormones to curtail that until the proper time as to start these issues. she kept complaining that her hip was in pain, the doctors finally took an x-ray only to discover it was broken. while in surgery, her leg broke. she recently just got the cast off. she’s wheelchair bound for life and her meds are very expensive. needless to say, her parents divorced and her mother is the primary care giver. her mother said this to say: “i never wanted children and now look what i’m stuck with. i’ll have a child in a wheelchair for life and i have no life.” if she had been aware she wouldn’t have carried. just imagine being forced to carry if you’ve become aware. sad.

These duplicitous FGOP clowns have nearly ruined this state. Republicans in Florida have injected their politics into our national relations.

They feel THEIR higher perceived sense of morality trumps (no pun intended) The Constitution and SCOTUS rulings they disagree with.

They’ve sold us out in this state, refuse to properly fund State Parks, cry poor for those in need and keep chopping off breaks for more developers to crowd this place even further.

FGOP only sees this state as something they can manipulate and control and tools like Rubio prove it better than I can.

Most people wouldn’t know Florida has 4% more Ds than Rs, but has long sufferred from maps drawn by GOP so gerrymandered, that the Courts made then redraw, redraw and redraw them again and they still couldn’t produce a fair one.

This will be our first election with the fair maps, IMPOSED by the courts.

Is why so much shuffling here this year, new chairs and new music for the game.

Folks like Rick Scott and Marco Rubio can best serve Florida by leaving it and never coming back….

Says a man who will never be faced with such a decision.

    • whatthe46 August 7th, 2016 at 22:49

until it happens to either his wife, daughter or sister. but of course, we’ll never know because he’ll take them out of the country.

    • bpollen August 8th, 2016 at 00:57

That DOES seem to be a theme for the Rs. They wanna make up rules for what YOU do with YOUR life, but think that they are above those little “law” thingies…

  10. bpollen August 8th, 2016 at 00:56

He wants to save the babies… so the Rs can neglect them later.

    Pro-life, my ass… my ever-increasing pasty-white ass!
