Holder: Snowden did ‘public service’ but ‘should be consequences’

Posted by | May 30, 2016 18:00 | Filed under: Politics

Former Attorney General Eric Holder is praising Edward Snowden.

“We can certainly argue about the way in which Snowden did what he did, but I think that he actually performed a public service by raising the debate that we engaged in and by the changes that we made,” Holder told David Axelrod on his CNN-produced podcast “The Axe Files.”

Holder, who served as U.S. attorney general from 2009 to 2015 — while Snowden was leaking top secret information, nevertheless maintained that the former contractor should face consequences.

“Now I would say that doing what he did — and the way he did it — was inappropriate and illegal,” Holder said, adding that Snowden’s actions “harmed American interests.”

…”I think there has to be a consequence for what he has done,” Holder added. “But, I think in deciding what an appropriate sentence should be, I think a judge could take into account the usefulness of having had that national debate.”

umm…yeah, but not for Snowden…he exposed a large amount of criminal activity, and yet there still are no consequences for those who committed those crimes against the US, and the World…

not sure what your post is saying or what the picture has to do with this,

Snowden is a national hero. His consequences should be that he is treated as one. In many cases our government was breaking the law. And equally important, as he has pointed out that what government was doing was making us less safe not more safe.

The authorities already had all the law they needed in order to spy on possible terrorists, They only needed to do what they did in order to mine our data and spy on US citizens and take away our civil rights. And in doing so, they took their eyes off the Boston bombers and that couple in CA. When they collect everything, they don’t have the manpower to analyse it and catch the terrorists. And I don’t believe that was their focus at all. This was always about denying us our rights.

      And most Americans don’t care.

It’s huge that Holder is admitting Snowden did America a service.

I hope he’s laying the groundwork for a plead-bargain or, better yet, a presidential pardon.
