Report: Romney involved in third party anti-Trump effort

Putting together a challenge to Donald Trump via a third party is an effort now joined by Mitt Romney.

In addition to Romney, Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol and Red State’s former editor Erick Erickson are involved in the effort, which has sought to recruit Ohio Gov. John Kasich and Sen. Ben Sasse from Nebraska.

In an appearance on CNN Thursday night, Kristol told Don Lemon, “I think there will be an independent candidate, I think a Republican of integrity and honor who people like me will feel comfortable voting for.” He added that that person “could beat both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton,” though he conceded that it was an “outside shot.”

    Sure, why not, the more the merrier. If nothing else it might get more people to the polls to vote, we need more excitement and variety, that’s for sure. The voting public has got to get engaged one way or another or the oligarchy is just going to simply take over.

    I just can’t see this coming together although I certainly do understand why they would want it to. It will cost the Democrats some cross-over votes, but then they will split the opposition so it would be all good for the Dems and who would want to be that spoiler?

    nope. I’m still thinking Mitt will win the GOP nomination @ an open convention.

    IF – he can pull in Haley, Dems are in a tooth and nail fight to the last minute of the last voting poll. It’s the ONLY way I can see GOP being united and pulling in the required outside votes to take the White House.

    Timing is crucial. Get the big build up at just the right time and it could be a sweep.

    there are no republicans with honor – if there were, I assume the public might have heard them utter something against the entire repug congress and the bushy fellas and the 1%. The usa is a place grasping at the opposite ends of a long ethical and moral rope and getting nowhere.
