Here’s the headline in Mother Jones. Well, I do not see a problem here. Let them. I wonder where they are going? On Wednesday, the Platform Committee of the Texas Republican Party voted to put a Texas independence resolution up for a vote at this week’s GOP convention, according to a press release from the pro-secession…

It is not clear to me if a state does have the right to secede. That is up to the courts.

However it is perfectly clear to me that if Texas does secede, they would become a foreign country. All that federal money will be redirected to loyal Americans in the remaining 49 states. Proceed Texas, don;t let the door hit your a$$ on the way out of the union, and no you most certainly cannot take NASA with you.

Exactly who are all those federal employees going to work for when you secede? What are your plans to find employment for the tens of thousands of people who stand to lose their federal jobs?

    Idiots…

But Texas also depends heavily on federal contracts and military spending, which ripple through the public and private sector. In Texas, government accounted for 1.7 million jobs in August. That’s nearly as many jobs as in manufacturing, construction and energy combined.

And here’s a surprise: Government is a slightly bigger force in Texas than in the rest of the country, at least measured by share of workers.

See where those “small government” republicans in Texas will be without the very large ($94b, as of 2010) federal presence. Who will pay for all the unemployed Texans, who no longer have federal jobs? It’s not happenin’.

I have a shovel. Can I start digging a moat between us and them ?

I’m not ready to move! I’ve got a couple of years to retirement, then it’s a different story. There’s no reality to this, it’s just the Tx tea party, led by the idiotic guv, throwing red meat to the base to keep ’em riled up. The Chamber of Commerce and other business leaders are aware of all the facts you’ve listed and know what an economic disaster secession would be.

Sovereign status would necessitate Texas to run trade surpluses to obtain US dollars. Who is going to trust the Texas “Redback” as a viable currency? The ongoing collapse of oil prices recently put Texas into trade deficit-oil is their primary export. This is just another in a long line of vague secession threats.

Excellent! The more damage Republicans do to their brand, the quicker Texas will go from red to blue!

    • Mike May 13th, 2016 at 16:08

Texas should already be blue…a lack of organization along with a bit of voter suppression (ID) and intimidation is all that stands in the way of dems taking Texas…

Why would Texas Idiots ever be THAT Good to us ? Does anyone realize how much the Deficit would drop if Texas left the union ?

If they do, we’re going to make them pay for the wall we’ll build to keep them out of our country.

The can secede. But they have to pay off their portion of the national debt. PLUS they have to pay for any U.S Military installations in Texas.
Also, they have to give the citizens that want to remain a part of the great USA the opportunity to leave, and recompense them for any expenses they may incur due to their forcing them to relocate to a sane portion of the world.
If they refuse, we drone their leaders unto submission.
