Click here for reuse options!The attack on the Medecins Sans Frontieres hospital took place last October during a campaign to retake the city of Kunduz from Taliban forces.
A US military inquiry has already found that the attack was “human error”.
The Pentagon is expected to release a full report on the investigation on Friday.
The service members, including some special operations personnel and one general officer, received administrative punishments, AP said.
They include letters of reprimand, which could have a career-ending effect on those involved.

They kept bombing for about 30 minutes after being contacted by the hospital. Their GPS was regularly updated and had been given to all sides in conflict the day before the bombing. This should be considered war crime.

If they intentionally targeted a hospital, then yes. That’s clearly a war crime.
But why would they intentionally target a hospital? What would they gain by that?
But, it’s equally hard to explain it as an accident.
If the coordinates pointed to an open field, why just shoot at the nearest thing? That’s not an accident. At the very least, it’s reckless.

Good question.
I suppose they claimed that the message never got to them.
But why fire on a target they weren’t sure of, even by their own admission?
This tragedy has the stink of a cover-up but I can’t say I understand it.

They had the GPS regularly sent to them. No excuses. The explanation is war and lack of respect for international rules.

As I understand the story, the pilots claim they were given obviously wrong GPS coordinates of where to bomb. It was an empty field.
So, the saw something nearby that maybe could have been the correct target.
And they let loose and shot the hell out of it.
It seems like a war crime, even by their own testimony. It’s illegal to indiscriminately kill civilians.
This incident seems like the dictionary definition of indiscrimination.
