Hillary Clinton Wins New York

Posted by | April 19, 2016 22:15 | Filed under: Politics

Hillary Clinton has won the New York primary.

The Clinton campaign hoped to deliver a crippling blow to Sanders, who had won eight of the last contests but faces more precarious terrain in upcoming votes along the East Coast. She was poised to take the brunt of the 247 delegates up for grabs Tuesday.

Her victory, though, did little to slam the door shut on Sanders. Although he trails the former secretary of state by a nearly insurmountable deficit in the delegate count, the Vermont U.S. senator remains a formidable contender who has drawn huge crowds around the nation with his populist appeal.

You’re gracious in victory whatthe, that’s so cool and rare. :)

      • clemans April 20th, 2016 at 17:29

Gina, I have been watching news in Portugal. Trying to get used to the sounds…..gosh you do English well. I am not sure I will ever lean Portuguese. If you had to pick what languages it sounds like, what would be your pick? It says BOM/DIA on the screen. And then they are showing a play with a genie in it. It looked like one story was about some demonstrations……they said el lampa……the lamp? That was all I got this time. Still haven’t stopped hoping they offer the class.

To me some of the sounds seem like that is a French influence, and some like Russian….I wondered if that was probable.

        Hope you are fine.

        • Gina Bousquet April 20th, 2016 at 18:06

Clemans dear, you are very brave to try to learn Portuguse as spoken in Portugal, awful hard to pronounce. If you ask me about Brazilian Portuguese I’d say the sound resembles Spanish and French a bit. I’m fine dear and so glad we’re chatting! :)

          • clemans April 20th, 2016 at 22:17

I sometimes listen to Brazil news too but lately have only seen Portugal, Netherlands, German, one foreign one but they speak English, and then Russian, after that I am tired of listening to words I don’t understand. SMILES

I am enjoying every time that I have understood a word in any of the languages.

I learned that Intel is laying off 11% of their work force, they said because computer sales are down, but then they perked up when they talked about how much money they will save by letting that many people off……those people won’t buy Intel products of possible anymore. And in the Netherlands, it looked like two girls went to stay with families from a different background and went to different schools….one city girl went to a dairy farm. That was interesting……parts of Portugal looked pretty and some parts looked barren.

I am part Iberian from a long time ago…..in my DNA test.

            • Gina Bousquet April 20th, 2016 at 22:35

I love reading and listening to international news too, but only in languages I can understand. Although I do the same thing you do with German news, I like to listen, although I lost practically all my German long ago. :) You’re right, parts of Portugal are lovely, others look barren…

              • clemans April 20th, 2016 at 22:44

a foreign language teacher said that when learning a new language, to listen to people speaking it as much as you can. It helps with pronunciation and some other stuff. I don’t know if that is true of not, but I listen to foreign news and enjoy it… so far!

Agreed. Either one better than Trump or Cruz.

  2. Kick Frenzy April 19th, 2016 at 22:50

    Dear Hillary,

    I don’t like you and I don’t trust you.

But, congrats on winning NY by 30%… oh wait… I mean 25%.
    No… looks like 20%?
    No, no… we’re at about 14% now.

    Still a definite win.
    At this point.

(Try not to think about the uncounted purged voters.)
(Or the provisional votes for voters whose party was changed on them.)

    Sincerely,
    Kick

        Very.

I thought you were trying to avoid that kind of antagonist provocation between us.

          • mistlesuede April 22nd, 2016 at 09:18

Since my reply was not to you, it is obvious that that is what you are all about with this antagonistic provocational comment two days later.
            Buh bye.

            • Kick Frenzy April 24th, 2016 at 12:57

Well, I tend to comment on stuff every couple of days instead of every couple of hours, so the timing has nothing to do with it.

And let’s not pretend like you weren’t talking about me and that the sentiment isn’t meant with a mean, snide smirk.
It’s antagonizing and I’m not about to accept that I’m the big meanie here when it’s clear to anyone with one eye and half a brain that you instigated… again.

I’ll believe you’re “buh bye” when you actually follow it… so far, you’re about even with the boy who cried wolf.

Oh yes, that is a very adult reply.

Only a child would keep responding after that.
                    LOL
Buzz off. Meaning, stop wasting my time with your childish crap in my notifications.

      • Kick Frenzy April 22nd, 2016 at 01:42

        Yup… a little bit.

I don’t want to vote for someone simply because they aren’t a Republican.
I want to vote for someone because I want to vote for them.

Hillary makes me seriously consider writing in Bernie.
Her record is largely horrible, albeit with some good positive achievements… but mostly, not so much.

So, yes, when a person who I consider a light shade of pale Blue (at best) is being pushed into the win so hard by so many, it’s shouldn’t be surprising when some people are getting aggravated, to put it lightly.

    • clemans April 20th, 2016 at 22:10

Kirk, I donate to Bernie, and I want him staying in as long as he doesn’t go into debt to do it. But I looked at the numbers today

      Hillary 1,037,344 Trump 518,601
      Bernie 752,739 Kasick 214,755
      Cruz 123,894

There were up to 100,000-150,000 democrats that were purged, probably from republicans because it is them doing it elsewhere. But even IF there was the high end on that, and all of the votes would ahve gone to Bernie, she still had more votes.

And here is a chance to take the mickey off Trump. He runs on saying that EVERYBODY loves him, and that he can pull the sides together, he will get women, blacks, Mexicans, poor, rich, whites, democrats, and independents to vote for him.

Last night he didn’t do it in his own state. But he put Cruz, who gave a rant saying that Trump should stop whining and learn how to have a winning campaign…guess he only seemed to imply he could teach that skill.

These numbers were reported on CNN this morning. I don’t know if they changed the count at any time today.

      • Kick Frenzy April 22nd, 2016 at 02:04

They aren’t bad numbers for Bernie.
        They aren’t good… but they aren’t terrible.

If all purged Dem voters were included, there’s a good chance the end number, along with delegates, would get adjusted.
If all provisional ballots (including independent) votes were counted, Bernie would probably have won by a good margin.

I know that doesn’t bode too well for the coming states, but knowing that he usually cuts leads in the week leading up to a primary, we could see some pleasant surprises on Tuesday.

And screw the Repubs… ain’t none of them going to win the general.
(Except maybe Kasich if it turned out to be Kasich v Hillary.)

        • clemans April 22nd, 2016 at 06:00

I am really encouraged about the support Bernie is getting. I don’t believe he will win, but the fact that he is doing as well, leaves me with hope for the future. If young people are getting involved, and are tired of the same short-sighted low expectations that we have settled for, there is a lot they can do in the next four years to get ready to make change. I don’t want them to get discouraged and give up…..which is what both parties are counting on.

          • Kick Frenzy April 24th, 2016 at 12:52

We need to continue to have passionate representation, like we have with Sanders.
Now we’re seeing more and more Dems aligning themselves with Bernie and following similar ideals, so that’s a great start!

I’m afraid that if Hillary wins the nomination, a lot of the built up passion will end up dying on the vine.
No matter how many times she says it, she’s not a progressive.
She’s a centrist, she even said she’s a moderate and a centrist and that America needs to move more towards the center.
When she says she’s progressive, she always adds “that likes to get things done”… which means she isn’t a progressive.

In any case… here’s hoping for a great Tuesday!!

            • clemans April 24th, 2016 at 17:19

We also can’t leave it to others to make us passionate. We need to want to care about the nation, but I am pulling for Bernie

              • Kick Frenzy April 26th, 2016 at 20:16

True, we do need to be passionate about our country simply because we live here.
But it certainly doesn’t hurt to have someone to vote for that you want to vote for (Bernie)! :)
Much different than voting for someone because you think they have a lot of experience or because you recognize the name (Hillary).

                • clemans April 26th, 2016 at 21:15

no, voting for someone with lots of experience is a good thing.

When you get on and airplane, do you want to get on with a pilot with little of no experience, or one that is skilled? We don’t need a world leader, one dealing with other world leaders WITH experience, with little or none.

Not sure how you think Bernie doesn’t have it. He does. Maybe not as much as Hillary but he knows Washington and he would be fine. Hillary’s problem is that she isn’t progressive enough. It is time to get the democrats to work for the people and stop being republican lites.

                  • Kick Frenzy April 26th, 2016 at 23:50

Um… why do I get the feeling we’re talking past each other?
                    Cuz, I agree.
I think Bernie has plenty of experience!
If you just go by executive experience, she has none… while he has years.
If you go by elected experience, he has many more years on her.
If you go by legislative experience, he again has more experience than her.

The only place she has more experience is in official foreign affairs.
The problem with that, for her, is that she sucked at it.

But like Bernie says, experience is not the measure to go by.
Voters should consider judgement and skill over length of time at a place.

I mean, Jeffrey Dahmer knew how to prepare a meal… but I sure as s*t ain’t inviting him over for dinner!

                    • clemans April 27th, 2016 at 00:02

The only reason Bernie might say that experience isn’t a big deal is because people could point out he doesn’t have enough of it, I don’t buy that, so I don’t have a need to bash her for hers.

I will vote for Hillary if she wins.

                    • Kick Frenzy April 27th, 2016 at 00:30

                      More power to you.
We should all vote for whoever we want to vote for.

I’m not bashing her, per se… just telling the truth.
Except for giving the go ahead to take out bin Laden, I don’t know of any foreign issues where she was correct in what she wanted to do.
(I’m open to being proven wrong, I just don’t know of her being particularly accomplished in foreign affairs.)

                    • clemans April 27th, 2016 at 03:28

not the truth, but your opinion, many of our allies think she did many good things. Also, on her own, she couldn’t do a lot. She can suggest but she served at the President’s request.

In the Middle East, there is no correct things to do, it is picking from worse options and they are all bad options. She did however advise that GITMO be closed and I agree with her on that.

I have friends from all over the globe and all of them want her as President. I believe they know too little about Bernie so pick her.

I don’t like the fighting between the two. But Sanders is correct on education, health care, and the banks, plus getting money out of the process. I wish she could be for those things, but she knows that conservatives will try to stop anything that helps America and Americans.

                    • Kick Frenzy April 28th, 2016 at 19:11

Well, no, it is the truth.

She has repeatedly voted for war.
(Those votes have repeatedly proven to have been poor foresight, at best.)
She has repeatedly agreed with or encouraged regime change.
She does support a “no fly zone” over Syria.
She did convince Bulgaria and Romania to allow fracking, against the will of the people and, originally, the governments,
She also promoted coal mining internationally.

                      These are facts.
They are facts I do not equate with what I want to see in a president.

There are also plenty of international people, in both government and citizenry, that want to see Bernie as president.

                    • clemans April 28th, 2016 at 21:51

Your mind seems made up on Hillary, it looks like Bernie isn’t going to get the nomination. I am still glad I donated to his campaign.

                    • Kick Frenzy April 29th, 2016 at 15:43

Yeah, it’s plain as the print on paper… she’s no Democrat, at least not the way I’ve always viewed the party.
And there’s a severe lack of trustability… you would have to believe that she’s changing the majority of her ideals and beliefs because she genuinely has evolved on so many things… all at the same time… just in time for (or, during) a presidential campaign.

As for Bernie, he’s easily not out of the contest yet.
We’ll see what happens by the end up of the primary calendar.
There’s still the massive amount of delegates in Cali, plus a good amount of the remaining primaries are either open or semi-closed, which bodes really well for Bernie.

    “who has drawn huge crowds”
Huge crowds with many of the same people and concerts do not equal votes needed as seen tonight. CONGRATULATIONS Hillary. We have not forgotten what you’ve done for NY. Thank you from the smart Democratic voters of this state.

I like Bernie. In a perfect world with no international strife he’d be a terrific president. I wish he had a more solid foreign policy, and I wish Hillary was more to the left, less of a hawk, and more tuned into the sad state of the money influence in our government. That said, the notion that Bernie has been completely untouched by big money or Wall St, is patently false. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2016/4/18/1517119/-Turns-out-Clinton-gave-Sanders-10k-to-help-him-win-his-senate-seat-Goldman-Sachs-chipped-in-too

    • Mensa Member April 20th, 2016 at 09:53

Don’t you think that Hillary knows, full-well, about the influence of money in politics?

I think most of us Americans would be shocked and appalled if we knew how much time our leaders spent raising money. But Hillary has seen the system from the inside.

Now, I don’t blame her for this system. If we Dems had our way, it would be different. But, to win, a candidate has to be in the system.

      • The Original Just Me April 20th, 2016 at 10:11

Your comment reminds me of Dufus. He spent most of his first term out raising money after he was in the Oval Office. The sad part of that was, he left Cheney in charge.

        • clemans April 20th, 2016 at 17:22

Cheney was in charge from before the beginning. At the time, the rumors were that plans had been made up so that we could invade Iraq again, that was always the plan, C. and Rumsfeld even tried to get Clinton to invade it for them for the oil of course.

But you are correct, Cheney is sad. SMILES….hope you are having a good day.

          • The Original Just Me April 21st, 2016 at 02:26

Dufus was obviously just a front-man. He was not running the show. As quick as he could, Cheney, got us into a war. These 28 pages that they are talking about could hold some info on all of this. Cheney’s whole purpose was to get HIS company, Halli-Burton into the supply chain so as to give them Billions of dollars worth of No Bid Contracts. Cheney was the President of Halli-Burton before becoming VP for Dufus. He also drew a full Presidents salary from Halli-Burton for five years AFTER he became VP for Dufus. It was done under the guise of Differed Profits Payments so as to get by the Legal aspect. Dufus finally woke up and saw what Cheney was doing to HIS Presidency and got into fighting with Cheney. This drove Dufus to start drinking again Hence, Dufus lives on the ranch while his wife lives in Dallas. That has to be the Worst and Most crooked administration the U.S. has ever seen. It is no wonder that Rice ran and hid after she got out. Powell also left in disgust.

            • clemans April 21st, 2016 at 03:57

Powell was used and then pushed out when he opposed the degree to which they were lying. I heard that Laura had spent little time in DC with him from the get go and that booze was why he MAY have choked on a pretzel…….after Reagan had the most number of his administration convicted, the GOP just changed the laws, but I agree with you, it is still corruption.

      • DogsRgoodpeople April 20th, 2016 at 11:00

Yes, I think Hillary knows full well about the influence of money in politics.

  10. Budda April 20th, 2016 at 09:00

Her win comes as no surprise. Yet Bernie is still in it. He brings a populist agenda into this campaign that can’t be ignored, especially by Hillary.

Hillary has been behind virtually the same agenda long before Bernie entered the race.

      • Bunya April 20th, 2016 at 12:57

Hillary voted in favor of the Iraq war ‘Nuff said.

        • Greta42 April 20th, 2016 at 14:57

Sanders voted against the Brady Bill 5 times and against most recent gun control measures. ‘Nuff said.

          • Bunya April 20th, 2016 at 15:11

Sanders was for most of the provisions of the Brady Bill, but he felt it held a potential for abuse that would punish the wrong people.
Hillary, on the other hand, voted for a disastrous war simply because she was afraid the GOP would think she was soft of terror. Even if the republican candidate loses and Hillary takes the general election, the GOP still wins. ‘Nuff said.

            • Greta42 April 20th, 2016 at 15:58

That’s quite a load of spinning you do for Sanders. He was pandering to the gun shops in Vermont and the NRA – at least pay attention to the truth of the matter. As for Hillary’s vote, she agreed to support the possibility of action if needed – It was Bush/Cheney who launched the war and cause the disastrous consequences.

              • Bunya April 20th, 2016 at 16:13

And she supported the disastrous war. Not because she was concerned about the welfare of the country, but because she was more worried about what the GOP would think.
                .
As for the Brady Bill, the only thing that would make me happy is if all guns were banned (excluding those in the police and those serving in the military). I didn’t like Bernie’s stance on the Brady Bill, but at least with him as president, I wouldn’t have to worry about another war in yet another Muslim country.

  11. OldLefty April 20th, 2016 at 09:36

I think that a majority of Bernies/Warrens in Congress with a Hillary in the White House would have a better chance of getting Bernie’s agenda through than a Bernie in the White House with a majority Blue Dog Democrats and Republicans in Congress.
The problem with ideological “emoprogs” is that they always inadvertently cede power to the Republicans in the midterms who dig a deeper hole, making it harder for the next liberal.
A president Bernie would need an LBJ or better Congress, (call it a 10), at best he would get a 2, then many of his supporters would blame him and we would get a -5 in the next midterm.

    • Mensa Member April 20th, 2016 at 09:44

      emoprogs?

      emotional-progressives?

But, I agree with you about Congress and Bernie.

A full-on liberal, non-compromising president needs filibuster-proof majorities in both houses. Bernie wouldn’t have anything close to that, even under the best outcomes.

      • OldLefty April 20th, 2016 at 09:52

Plus, I doubt that if Congress passed a single payer bill, that that a ‘President Hillary’ would veto it.

“Emo Progressive (or “emoprog”) is a self-described liberal or progressive, often with strong libertarian leanings, whose primary political orientation is to be angry, dissatisfied and unhappy with the state of the nation at any given time, because in their view, liberal policies are not being implemented quickly enough or articulated forcefully enough. They have particular contempt for Democratic presidents.

Emoprogs are ideological purists who disdain compromise and incremental change, which they see as “selling out” classical liberal ideas like full employment, an end to all wars, state secrets, and liberal social policy.

Emoprogs dislike Republicans but reserve their greatest disdain for Democratic presidents, whom they relentlessly attack for not meeting a set of ideological goal posts that are constantly adjusted to ensure that the president will be deemed a disappointment, “not progressive enough” or “just like a Republican” no matter what policy achievements are made.

Emoprogs routinely dismiss or ignore congress’ role in making or impeding policy, believing presidents can simply “use the bully pulpit” and “fight” in order to overcome constitutional or legislative obstacles.

Emoprogs have a strong affinity for third party politics as a way to punish Democratic presidents. They are especially hostile to President Barack Obama and deem anyone who expresses a lack of ill will toward him to be “Obamabots” and enemies of liberalism.

Example1: After Eric Holder announced congress had blocked the Justice Department from trying 9/11 mastermind KSM in civilian court, social networks lit up with emo progressives complaining that President Obama had broken his campaign promise to end military tribunals. Their criticism did not mention congressional Democrats who helped block Holder.

Example2: Emoprogs dismissed healthcare reform as a failure, saying President Obama should have used the bully pulpit to achieve a single payer system, despite the fact that Sen. Harry Reid made it clear that such a plan could not pass the Senate.”

        • Mensa Member April 20th, 2016 at 09:59

Thanks for the details. I totally know the type.

I get so irritated when these guys do the Republians’ jobs for them.

For example, remember how hard Obama got hammered for supposedly not supporting gay equality? There were months of outraged articles in Huffpost and stories on Democracy Now. It seemed like we lost the 2010 mid-term partly on that issue.

But when Obama ended “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”? Crickets from these same people.

          • OldLefty April 20th, 2016 at 10:08

            Exactly!
I think they actually push us more to the right, because when they don’t vote and only 35% of voters turn out and 18% are Republicans and the “majority” they act like they have a mandate.
            Someone wrote a wonderful comment (I think in Balloon Juice a few years ago);

“There are, I am convinced, people within just about any movement who

            cherish defeat.

Defeat allows them to nurse a grudge, allows them to burnish their

vanity and pride at their own pristine moral righteousness, without

any of the messy compromise and painful slogging through the trenches

            that actual victory brings.

We see this all the time when at activist meetings, where there is

always some guy who wails loudly about the wicked immorality of the

world, about the corruption of the movement all the while implying that they alone

are the valiant pure soul who stand uncorrupted.

Of course, these same people can be counted on to never man a phone

bank, never walk a precinct, never send a donation.

They are the political equivalent of the 101st Chairborne, the

chickenhawks who lustily declare war from their moms basement.

F*ck, I am as pissed at Obama for half a dozen things as well; but

when I look at the political landscape he is head and shoulders above

anyone else, and I am working my ass off doing everything in my power

            to get him re-elected.

If someone wants to stand tall and preen about their political purity

go ahead- but just please get the f*ck out of the way of those who

            want to get sh*t done.”

            I could not agree more.

        • eyelashviper April 20th, 2016 at 14:33

thanks…we all know more than a few emo progs, who wail almost as loudly as Trumpanzees over the “unfairness” of everything.

          • mistlesuede April 20th, 2016 at 18:04

            Ain’t that the truth!

        • Granite Skyline April 20th, 2016 at 15:18

For Conservatives, change is always happening too fast; for emoprogs (love the phrase you’ve coined!) change will never happen fast enough. Both have committed themselves to a permanent state of disgruntlement.

          • OldLefty April 20th, 2016 at 15:29

I wish I could take credit for “emoprog”, but it comes from the Urban Dictionary.

            Another great quote from Mark Twain;

“The radical of one century is the conservative of the next. The radical invents the views.
When he has worn them out, the conservative adopts them.”
            Mark Twain – Notebook, 1898

        • apogee2perogee April 20th, 2016 at 22:23

I certainly understand the need for incremental progress, and I understand that the real lifting has to happen in the populace first, then the Congress, and finally in the Oval Office. But I don’t think it simply “emo” to observe that the Democratic Party has abandoned many of the Democratic principles of FDR, and then wish and advocate for better.

          • OldLefty April 21st, 2016 at 06:35

            They said the same thing about FDR in his time;

” Now in the third year of his administration, we find more of our people unemployed than at any other time. We find our houses empty and our people hungry, many of them half-clothed and many of them not clothed at all.

The great betrayer and liar, Franklin D. Roosevelt, who promised to drive the money changers from the temple, had succeeded [only] in driving the farmers from their homesteads and the citizens from their homes in the cities. I ask you to purge the man who claims to be a Democrat, from the Democratic Party, and I mean Franklin Double-Crossing Roosevelt.”

            -Huey Long

            Not to mention;

            The Langston Hughes poem, “Ballad of Roosevelt”;

            Ballad of Roosevelt

            The pot was empty,

            The cupboard was bare.

            I said, Papa,

            What’s the matter here?

            I’m waitin’ on Roosevelt, son,

            Roosevelt, Roosevelt,

            Waitin’ on Roosevelt, son.

            The rent was due,

            And the lights was out.

            I said, Tell me, Mama,

            What’s it all about?

            We’re waitin’ on Roosevelt, son,

            Roosevelt, Roosevelt,

            Just waitin’ on Roosevelt.

            Sister got sick

            And the doctor wouldn’t come

            Cause we couldn’t pay him

            The proper sum—

            A-waitin on Roosevelt,

            Roosevelt, Roosevelt,

            A-waitin’ on Roosevelt.

            Then one day

They put us out o’ the house.

Ma and Pa was Meek as a mouse

            Still waitin’ on Roosevelt,

            Roosevelt, Roosevelt.

            But when they felt those

            Cold winds blow

            And didn’t have no

            Place to go

            Pa said, I’m tired

            O’waitin’ on Roosevelt,

            Roosevelt, Roosevelt.

Damn tired o‘ waitin’ on Roosevelt.

            I can’t git a job

And I can’t git no grub.

            Backbone and navel’s

            Doin’ the belly-rub—

            A-waitin’ on Roosevelt,

            Roosevelt, Roosevelt.

And a lot o’ other folks

            What’s hungry and cold

            Done stopped believin’

            What they been told

            By Roosevelt,

            Roosevelt, Roosevelt—

            Cause the pot’s still empty,

            And the cupboard’s still bare,

            And you can’t build a

            bungalow

            Out o’ air—

            Mr. Roosevelt, listen!

            What’s the matter here?”

But that was when no one had the benefits brought about by FDR and before the Civil and Voting Rights Acts (that delivered the South to Republicans and right wing talk radio turned at least half of the 99% against FDR like policies.

Now, it is as hard to get 535 members of Congress to maintain FDR’s policies as it was for FDR himself to start them.

            • apogee2perogee April 21st, 2016 at 09:00

While I would agree that the criticism of FOR was inaccurate, that offers no implication for current criticism of the D party or Ms. Clinton. Your reply is specious.

              • OldLefty April 21st, 2016 at 09:54

                I totally disagree.
I say that those engaged in the current criticism of the D party or Ms. Clinton would be saying the same thing about FDR in his day.
And I didn’t say the criticism was not or is not accurate….it’s simply just coming from ideology and not practicality.
For example, FDR was pummeled for allowing domestic and farm workers to be excluded from Social Security when every Southern Democrat said they would vote “Nay”, (after all, Southerners didn’t want to pay into the retirement funds of their ‘colored maids’).
FDR said the main thing was to get it through and it could always be expanded upon later, as it was.
Same is true with the ACA; we can always expand it to include a public option, or lower the age of Medicare etc, but if no compromises were made, we might still be waiting for guaranteed issue or for some sort of Social Security.
How the proponents of the public option could have REALLY fought back was to put more D’s in the House (since the House DID send over a bill with a public option), and work on having more of them more progressive, instead of staying home and turning the House over to Rs who oppose even guaranteed issue and claimed a mandate to to overturn everything Obama was elected for.
