This works across the board. If we are only surrounded by people we can personally identify with, then we will assume all that we hear about the other groups are true. Humans always like to believe we belong to the best team. We need to interact and not just on keyboards, by talking to others face to face we lose the opportunity to demonize them.

I guess I’m an exception — I changed my mind on the gay issue without knowing any “out” gay people.

But, it took a lot of reading and thinking and praying. I was raised in a fundamentalist church and have spent my adult life, living and working with evangelicals. Becoming vocally “pro-gay” meant giving up my own community.

I’m glad I did but it cost me a lot.

I don’t need a conversation because rights are rights. A persons sexual identity or orientation doesn’t in any way amplify or denigrate those rights. I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t understand the LGTBI lifestyle/community, but that’s fine.
I also don’t understand golf, crocs, buying a movie and then watching it on a 2 inch screen, Starbucks, gluten free, spin classes, vaping, lite beer, or 4 dollar bottled water.
Just because I don’t understand it, buy it or subscribe to it, doesn’t mean it’s wrong or worthy of my contempt.
Ok…except for lite beer, that sh*t needs to be banned.
