Cruz NY school visit canceled after threatened walkout

Bronx, NY students wanted nothing to do with Ted Cruz.

Cruz was scheduled to speak at Bronx Lighthouse College Preparatory Academy until students wrote a letter to the principal asking her not to let Cruz come, prompting staffers to cancel the appearance.

“We told her if he came here, we would schedule a walkout,” said Destiny Domeneck, 16. “Most of us are immigrants or come from immigrant backgrounds. Ted Cruz goes against everything our school stands for.”

Destiny and her classmates communicated that sentiment to Lighthouse Principal Alix Duggins.

“A group of students will be leaving during 4th period, as (an) act of civil disobedience in regards to the arrival of Ted Cruz to BLCPA,” the letter said. “We have all considered the consequences of our actions and are willing to accept them.”

“The presence of Ted Cruz and the ideas he stands for are offensive,” the letter said. “His views are against ours and are actively working to harm us, our community, and the people we love. “

The letter called Cruz “misogynistic, homophobic, and racist.”

    Well done…

Good for them. How’s that for New York values, Teddy?

    • zoey2012 April 6th, 2016 at 19:58

Yep. It’s the New York values I was raised with.

Lousy young whuppersnappers! Why, in MY day, we’da introduced ’em to the “board of education”, and made ’em recite the sacred Pledge of Allegiance a dozen times before forcing them to give standing ovations to Mr. Cruz!
And before one a’ you pinkos start yakkin’ about corporal punishment and restrictive class environments, I’ll have you know that when I was at school, I was beaten regularly every thirty minutes, and it never did me any harm – except for psychological maladjustment and
    blurred vision.

Kids too young to vote, but smart enough to see a dangerous demagogue and resist having to allow him access to their educational institution.
Pre schoolers would also reject both he and Trump if shown brief videos…

Heck even his daughter doesn’t want anything to do with him

I worry more about what he has planned for America than what one cranky pre-teen does when pulled into her daddy’s nonsense.
(Don’t get me wrong; the man would be a horror story if elected! But if I had a dollar for every time I shied away from affection at that odd age, I could run for POTUS myself. Mind you, he IS an ass for pulling the kid into it…)

It gives me hope for our education system, even if it IS a prep school…

The beauty of it is that those students did not in any way threaten to disrupt or restrict Sen. Cruz’s first amendment rights.

They simply stated very clearly that if Sen. Cruz is allowed to exercise his first amendment rights on school property, then they will too.

It does not get much more American than that.

    Hat tip to the youngsters….

Out of all places to go to, he choices the Bronx? Has he ever been there? It is a mixture of every culture in the world, that is the last place a republican politician should go. If he want to find any support in the state of New York, go waaaaay up north to farm country, you might find a friend up there, I doubt it but it is your best bet.

      The Catskills, maybe…

My dads side is from upstate, and I am talking about towns that have more cows than people. Good people, but afraid of anything outside of their narrow lives.

        • Hirightnow April 6th, 2016 at 22:07

These same people are the ones that we “goldurn libruls” should focus on; those who, despite the rhetoric from the right, should be shown the evidence that what they are voting for is NOT in their (or anyone’s) best interest..

Tunnel vision is their problem. My dad insists he is paying for every person in the tri-state area who is on food stamps by himself. He always claims republicans pay for democrats to be fed. All three of his kids and his wife are democrats and we all work, he is now retired. He is now the self promoting sponge who continues to claim his importance to the world. I have tried to provide him with facts, however he just yells over me and I just walk away. He was born and raised to be ignorant about certain issues and he refuses to open his little mind to be more understanding, I think it is in his DNA.

Please don’t referance the “Tri-state area” with me…

Ahhhh, Phineas and Ferb. I haven’t been able to get my fill of cartoons lately. I am a big Sponge Bob fan, I need to change the channel for 24/7 news and watch real programming more often.

                • Hirightnow April 7th, 2016 at 12:21

                  It’s….really it’s a “thing”with me,you know?

You get me to think outside the box and that is a good thing.

What was it Rafa said just a few short weeks ago about NYC?

  9. William April 6th, 2016 at 21:41

NY Kids have street smarts. They know a scum-bag when they see one.

  10. CHOCOL8MILK April 6th, 2016 at 23:23

This perfectly illustrates why in such places as Texas, GOP go out of their to dumb down the education of children. Can’t have future thinkers who will vote. Got to have uneducated non critical thinking voters to keep the GOP alive in the future.

    Awesome job BLCPA students!

  11. mistlesuede April 7th, 2016 at 00:36

Could not feel prouder of these students from my state!

    • whatthe46 April 7th, 2016 at 00:47

i’m proud they are thinking Americans and are clearly smart.

  12. jybarz April 7th, 2016 at 02:33

Great polite put down to a Canadian/Cuban immigrant Cruzifer who thinks he’s way better than other immigrants and doesn’t care about the other immigrants’ lot.

  13. jybarz April 7th, 2016 at 02:36

    Bravo, Kids!

  14. Foundryman April 7th, 2016 at 21:23

This is exactly the kind of actions that should follow Cruz (and Trump actually) everywhere they go in this country.
