I just don’t know how I feel about this. I would be the first one to be understanding of various religions and races celebrating different holidays. They could easily have one holiday party that includes all the winter holidays represented. It would be a good way to learn about different cultures and celebrations. I don’t see where the makeup of the student body at his school would have a big problem with any of the holidays he is cancelling though? I agree with the school official in CT. Children need to have fun also at school to make it a well rounded experience.
I think this was a bad decision. Needs some work.

This is great, the majority is not interested in the religous holidays. How about crazy hat day, sadie hawkins dance, sports day…there are so many options to offer.

or, better yet, include the other holidays of the different cultures. it’s a learning experience as well. “christians” don’t own December, hell, i love it that some have hissy fits over the 31st of October. but, everyone can be included. it’s not that hard to accomplish.

They could have a festival of holidays week, everyone draws a picture and writes a short paper that explains their holiday and why it is important to their culture and family.

Thanksgiving is not a Christian holiday, it is an American holiday. As far as my friends around the world know, Christmas and Valentines day are to. The biggest Christmas tree in the world was in Dubai a couple years ago, they actually see it as an American holiday. I am an atheist and I celebrate holidays, not like the religious do though, just the American parts of them.

I’m a Christian and I wish society would stop observing Christmas.

I don’t like that people get trampled at the Walmart in celebration of my lord’s birth.

But I don’t feel any connection to Thanksgiving or Valentine’s Day. I already consider those beyond my religion.

Don’t take away holidays. Re-purpose them, rename them, add more of them…

I think holidays during the school year are good for students. As another articles sez, goofing off is good for you.

They are in school those days …right?

This does seem like an overdose of political correctness. It is entirely possible to partake in a holiday without the intense religious significance and to be able to understand that others have beliefs different from our own.
Thanksgiving is a day of celebration of the harvest and being thankful for such…how this can be considered inappropriate is just silly.
And Valentine’s day…sheesh, time to silence Cupid and warm fuzzy feelings.
Holidays are a tradition in every culture and are special days, even if it is just a day off for some.
