Obama on Iran deal and hostage release: We didn’t have to resort to war

Posted by | January 17, 2016 12:46 | Filed under: Politics

If Republicans had their way there’d be lots more dead people. Thankfully, because of diplomacy, that didn’t have to happen.

The president repeatedly touted both as a victory for “strong American diplomacy,” saying that opening avenues of communication with Iran has led to unprecedented dialogue and cooperation.

Obama explained that Iran has “fulfilled key commitment” under the deal, including removing two-thirds of their centrifuges, getting rid of 98 percent of its stockpile of enriched uranium, and allowing “unprecedented access inspections.”

He said that this was a success “through diplomacy, without resorting to another war in the Middle East.”

No war? So that’s what they don’t like about it.

I think we just found the one thing the republicans would support the President doing.

      • Larry Schmitt January 17th, 2016 at 13:24

No, even if he had a reason to go to war, they would find lots to hate about it.

They never have authorized the ISIS bombing.

Sadly, IMHO, the GOP-led legislature gave the president unlimited war authority in Iraq.

Oh, I bet they will support his actions on Jan. 20, 2017. :+)

Well hopefully that unity will continue through the next Presidency (of course it will be Bernie or Hillary).

They just don’t like anything that is not Nutsy, Fruity, or Just Palin Stupid.

    In contrast to Ronald Reagan.

I’ll take Responsible Diplomacy over Occupied Body Bags any day. IF the Cheney/Dufus administration would have tried this, many of our Fine Young People would be Alive or Whole today.

      Agreed!

The conservative mind set; ” We have to continue to kill those who kill others because killing is wrong”…or something like that.

A false choice: war or do nothing.

    • robert January 18th, 2016 at 15:04

how about recruiting some locals to take care of the problems instead of other countries doing the job for them

“without resorting to another war in the Middle East”

Iran will (continue to) fund proxy wars throughout the middle east with their new-found money.
