NC Town Rejects Solar Farm As Resident Fears It Would ‘Suck Up All The Energy From The Sun’

And you wonder why Donald Trump has a following.

Bobby Mann said he watched communities dry up when I-95 came along and warned that would happen to Woodland because of the solar farms.

“You’re killing your town,” he said. “All the young people are going to move out.”

He said the solar farms would suck up all the energy from the sun and businesses would not come to Woodland.

you don’t necessarily have to have any schooling to get one of them honorary BS certificates like tr*mp had stripped from him.

“Liberal Bias” Also Know as an Informed Opinion

“Privatize to Profitize” explains every single Republican economic, social and governing philosophy. Take every taxpayer dollar

from defense, education, health care, public lands, retirement – privatize it, and profit from it.

I am a Liberal and proud of it …

        Actual meaning of Liberalism

“Liberalism is a political philosophy or world-view founded on ideas of liberty and equality. The former principle is stressed in classical liberalism while the latter is more evident in social liberalism. Liberals espouse a wide array of views depending on their understanding of these principles, but generally they support ideas and programs such as freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of religion, free markets, civil rights, democratic societies, secular governments, and international cooperation.

Liberalism first became a distinct political movement during the Age of Enlightenment, when it became popular among philosophers and economists in the Western world. Liberalism rejected the notions, common at the time, of hereditary privilege, state religion, absolute monarchy, and the Divine Right of Kings. The 17th-century philosopher “John Locke” is often credited with founding liberalism as a distinct philosophical tradition. Locke argued that each man has a natural right to life, liberty and property, while adding that governments must not violate these rights based on the social contract. Liberals opposed traditional conservatism and sought to replace absolutism in government with representative democracy and the rule of law.

your Fascist ( corporate ruled government , also know as KoshCo or the United Corporations of America.) republican leaders, have in their quest for power and wealth, spun The poor souls so hard they don’t know which end is up any more. Or can tell the truth from lies anymore.

but you have to remember the new Republican mantra ” ignorance is strength.

“Where do you think they are getting their electricity from?”.

It would appear that the answer to your question is COAL.

“In 2013 coal made up about 45% of Germany’s electricity production (19% from hard coal and 26% from lignite).”

Germany is making great strides and leaving the US of A in the dust.

Germany has five times as much solar power as the U.S. — despite Alaska levels of sun

some US Power utilities are slowly coming around with major city grids being supplemented with solar input. (mostly office complexes that tend to use limited energy). – but it’s slowly catching on…

before you know it, we’ll be having to pilfer solar power from the Centaurians to supplement the dwindling supply of our sun that’ll be used up by our solar panels sucking it dry?

      • Roctuna December 12th, 2015 at 16:55

Germany is using a lot of coal, with the best available technology, because of their national decision to shut down their nuclear plants. As others here, along with myself have pointed out, they also have one of the most aggressive programs on the planet to eliminate the coal-fired plants as well as they shift to a largely decentralized system of power generation. None of these changes happen overnight.

        • Robert M. Snyder December 12th, 2015 at 16:58

Why Germany’s nuclear phaseout is leading to more coal burning

          https://carboncounter.wordpress.com/2015/06/06/why-germanys-nuclear-phaseout-is-leading-to-more-coal-burning/

        • Robert M. Snyder December 12th, 2015 at 17:10

The fastest growing renewable energy source in Germany is biomass. To convert biomass to electricity, they burn it, which releases plenty of CO2. No easy solutions, and “renewable” does not always mean “low carbon”.

          http://energypost.eu/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Michel-picture1.jpg

          • Roctuna December 12th, 2015 at 17:40

No, they digest it to produce biogenic methane, which they burn. You’re right though that there are no easy solutions. It takes a well thought out plan and the will to execute that plan. We have little of either in the US

            • Robert M. Snyder December 12th, 2015 at 17:44

Thanks for the correction. My local school district just installed a biomass boiler. They considered natural gas, which is plentiful here in PA. But they opted for “renewable” and got a $500K state grant. So now they are burning wood chips, which meets the definition of renewable but does nothing to reduce carbon emissions. And the boiler makes so much noise that students can’t hear the teacher in one of the nearby classrooms.

              • Roctuna December 12th, 2015 at 17:49

Well I did say “well thought out plan” Sounds like the school could have used a bit more planning. It seems to me we could use a lot more professional advisors for projects like the one you describe instead of letting each effort sort of fend for itself. Sounds like a job for the DOE, which the gop wants to eliminate.

                • mea_mark December 12th, 2015 at 18:04

Something like this would be great … http://www.permies.com/t/19523/biochar/Charcoal-Bio-char-Production-Utilizing … a biochar making device that also boils water at the same time with the waste heat. Wood chips turn into carbon that can be added to the soil to improve it and also fixes the carbon in the ground.

Don’t know how hard it would be, but the boiler might be convertible to something like this using natural gas to cook the wood chips and start the process.

Wasn’t there a congressman a few years ago who thought a wind farm would use up all the wind?

    • FatRat December 12th, 2015 at 15:29

Joe Barton playing fast and loose with the truth. Big ifs and it’s a theory. In eight or nine decades, if we had 10% of energy coming from wind, certain areas could be one degree hotter (theoretically).

When I first heard of this story, I thought sure it was an internet prank.

But no. If you follow the link in Alan’s post, it takes you directly to the website of the local newspaper. The stupidity is all too real.

If I were a betting man, I would wager that every single one of those townspeople opposed to solar energy, are conservatives. We liberals may have our faults. But abject stupidity is not one of them.

Yep, and they are the ones that lobbied against third party leasing of solar panels which if we had that could go to best buy and least roof top systems like seven other states. But the powers that be have spoken and by god you will have no solar power unless it goes through their meter, period, the teamed up with walmart to lobby against it A-holes

Number 1, that has to be one of the most poorly-editted newspaper articles I ever read. Some remedial training might be in order for reporter and editor.

Number 2. WTF! “She is a retired Northampton science teacher and is concerned that photosynthesis, which depends upon sunlight, would not happen and would keep the plants from growing. She said she has observed areas near solar panels where the plants are brown and dead because they did not get enough sunlight.”

A SCIENCE TEACHER! Must have been creation science.
