Governor Robert Bentley believes he’d be harming his state by allowing in Syrian refugees.

“After full consideration of this weekend’s attacks of terror on innocent citizens in Paris, I will oppose any attempt to relocate Syrian refugees to Alabama through the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program. As your governor, I will not stand complicit to a policy that places the citizens of Alabama in harm’s way,” Bentley said.

“I will not place Alabamians at even the slightest, possible risk of an attack on our people,” Bentley continued. “Please continue to join me in praying for those who have suffered loss and for those who will never allow freedom to fade at the hands of terrorists.”

Bentley did not elaborate in the statement how he would block the program in his state. Alabama is the second state to try to refuse Syrian refugees. Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder announced earlier on Sunday that he was suspending Michigan’s plans to accept refugees from Syria.

yep….’Bama…the leader in unsullied bigotry…Fear not the unknown, but fear the known idiocy of the gop…

    • Robert Smithson November 16th, 2015 at 09:27

It’s the known idiocy of Democrat leaders. Muslims are now the leading killers in all the world, yet Democrat politicians led by President Obama continue to want to let them into the country. Unbelievable! Look at any picture of these “refugees” and single young men of military age predominate. Why aren’t they staying at home and fighting to take back their country?

      • Buford2k11 November 16th, 2015 at 09:33

Nope….wrong…so, you can tell some one’s a terrorist just by looking at a photo? these Muslims you say are the leading killers in the world is absolutely incorrect…the NRA is the leading killer in the USofA…Republican policies of the past has killed more innocents than anything else…So, cruelty and stupidity rules the GOP…got it…

      • William November 16th, 2015 at 09:34

“Muslims are now the leading killers in all the world”,
You got a graph, study, link or some sort of credible article to support that statement right?
        I’ll wait.

        • whatthe46 November 16th, 2015 at 09:43

wait, but don’t hold your breath.

          • Suzanne McFly November 16th, 2015 at 17:10

Robert can hold his breath though, right?

            • whatthe46 November 16th, 2015 at 17:22

              you betcha. LOL

              • Suzanne McFly November 16th, 2015 at 18:24

Good, I figured but I just wanted to make sure.

        • Roctuna November 16th, 2015 at 13:52

Maybe he’s looking at the data I provided but somehow I doubt it.

There is only one long term solution to counterbalancing the fundamentalists in the ME and the US.

        Atheist Schools!

      • whatthe46 November 16th, 2015 at 09:44

just because you capable of typing those words, doesn’t make it true. and why you have to lie is beyond me.

      • whatthe46 November 16th, 2015 at 09:57

in just the past few weeks, several arrest have been made by the police and the FBI, when they thwarted attacks by white “Christian” males (Americans) that were planning attacks on schools and churches. and Washington College in Baltimore had temporary closures this morning because of a gun threat on its campus. non of these incidences are because of muslims. so you really need to check yourself. while you’re bitching about someone thousands of miles away, you should be bitching about the terrorist threats in our own backyard by our very on citizens. asswipe.

        • Dwendt44 November 17th, 2015 at 00:22

We are in MORE danger from our misguided fellow citizens that we are from foreign terrorists.

          • whatthe46 November 17th, 2015 at 00:36

and faux news will never let their little sheep hear that FACT!

      • anothertoothpick November 16th, 2015 at 10:04

“Since 9/11, foreign-inspired terrorism has claimed about two dozen lives in the United States. (Meanwhile, more than 100,000 have been killed in gun homicides)

      • anothertoothpick November 16th, 2015 at 10:23

        “idiocy of Democrat leaders”?

In 2003, the U.S. military, on orders of President Bush, invaded Iraq, and nineteen days later threw out Saddam’s government. A few days after that, President Bush or someone in his Administration decreed the dissolution of the Iraqi Army. This decision didn’t throw “thirty thousand individuals” out of a job, as Ziedrich said—the number was closer to ten times that. Overnight, at least two hundred and fifty thousand Iraqi men—armed, angry, and with military training—were suddenly humiliated and out of work.

This was probably the single most catastrophic decision of the American venture in Iraq. In a stroke, the Administration helped enable the creation of the Iraqi insurgency.

        This was true idiocy.

dubya the guy you voted for TWICE.

        • Dwendt44 November 17th, 2015 at 00:20

And the leaders of that military that Bush fired became the leaders of ISIS.

      • Roctuna November 16th, 2015 at 11:09

As usual you just repeat some talking point you heard somewhere

Since 2006 estimated just over 161000 deaths attributed to all forms of terrorism

        http://www.statista.com/statistics/202871/number-of-fatalities-by-terrorist-attacks-worldwide/

In Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq alone the US-led coalitions are responsible for over 432,000 civilian deaths

        http://watson.brown.edu/costsofwar/costs/human/civilians/pakistani

The US leads in many wonderful and amazing things but sadly we also tend to lead in some of the worst. War is hell and we’ve visited it upon these people in spades.

      • tracey marie November 16th, 2015 at 11:15

more stupidity from you, stop qouteing wnd and fox slop.

      • Richard Banville November 16th, 2015 at 15:34

Conservative Republicans are BY FAR the leading killers in the world.
More people have been killed by B*sh/Cheney than Al Qaeda and ISIL put together. On several orders of magnitude.

      • granpa.usthai November 16th, 2015 at 16:36

because they see a better opportunity for their family’s future by getting the hell out?

      • granpa.usthai November 16th, 2015 at 16:44

perhaps you could remain on post and explain how the governor of Alabama (with foot in mouth) will be able to do this AND Alabama remain in the UNION?

  2. William November 16th, 2015 at 09:20

That’s right Governor. Treat those refugees with the same contempt Alabama has for teachers and dentists.

  3. anothertoothpick November 16th, 2015 at 09:48

    Silly political theatre.

    • whatthe46 November 16th, 2015 at 10:12

      dangerous political theatre.

  4. Budda November 16th, 2015 at 10:59

I wonder if he can legally do that?

    • rg9rts November 16th, 2015 at 12:06

      No

    • granpa.usthai November 16th, 2015 at 16:33

only if they secede or get their asses thrown out of the union (charter for statehood requires Federal Law to take precedent) –

in which case ALL FEDERAL properties, investments and infrastructures could and should be removed. northern Alabama, can you say TVA as in dams and power stations? FCC – GONE
interstate and US highways – GONE
      Huntsville space center – GONE
and on and on and on
NOTE: firing upon a federal facility or at federal personnel constitutes an open declaration of war. (ref: southern history 1861-1865)

and the UNION is a whole lot bigger better and stronger than back then.

  5. tracey marie November 16th, 2015 at 11:15

Could you first handle your white supremacists and inbred ammosexuals then worry about refugees.

  6. rg9rts November 16th, 2015 at 12:06

Real american this guy is…the Nes Pearce have the same feelings towards him

  7. anothertoothpick November 16th, 2015 at 13:02

He should think of the refugees as friends, coming from far far away, across the big water.

    • granpa.usthai November 16th, 2015 at 16:24

they ain’t WHITE – so even if related by blood – color counts most ’cause that’s what you see.

  8. Larry Schmitt November 16th, 2015 at 13:52

I didn’t know he could close the state border on his own authority.

    • granpa.usthai November 16th, 2015 at 16:23

      WTF not?

If the governor of New Jersey can close down bridges, can’t the governor of Alabama close down his state borders? (as long as the refugees stay on the interstate boundaries – FEDERAL TERRITORY )

  9. dewired4u November 16th, 2015 at 14:15

after hill billy heroin and A I D S gets done with the south they will be crying for refuges.

  10. Bunya November 16th, 2015 at 16:08

“As your governor, I will not stand complicit to a policy that places the citizens of Alabama in harm’s way,” Bentley said.”
    .
Who knows? Maybe the Syrian refugees can think of a way to help boost Alabama’s economy, thereby reducing the poverty rate. Lord knows you’re doing a piss poor job of it.

  11. Richard Banville November 16th, 2015 at 15:32

“I will not place Alabamians at even the slightest, possible risk of an attack on our people,” Bentley continued.
In that case they should deport all the violent right-wing conservatives in the KKK and other such groups.
There’s more risk of attacks from those racist bozos than from all the Syrian refugees put together.

  12. granpa.usthai November 16th, 2015 at 15:38

This is good. The more states that ‘refuse’ to accept refugees the greater the opportunity for those who do.

UH- ‘brilliant’ governor of Alabama – what happens when they become US CITIZENS?

(gonna shut down all interstate travel in Alabama with your 4 DMV offices?).

    • lorddevonshire November 16th, 2015 at 15:44

isn’t free travel protected by the constitution in some way or another?

      got what I was after

      • granpa.usthai November 16th, 2015 at 16:54

use to be in the lower 48 when folks could come and go as they pleased until the FAILED Bundy uprising in Nevada by WHITE RACIST TERRORIST to overthrow the United States Government and/or the Hawaiian in the White House ran away fleeing for his life. Unfortunately for them, Hawaiians is apt to fight when forced to do so. Since then, only WHITE RACIST TERRORIST are truly free to travel wherever and whenever they want, locked and loaded with STOLEN US MILITARY weapons. For the rest of US, it’s a gamble. Which is another reason I promote each and every American carrying around a Russian built Czar nuclear bomb as the 2nd Amendment clearly gives them the right to do AND -this right shall not be infringed!

  13. lorddevonshire November 16th, 2015 at 15:43

if they are vetted properly by people who know what they are doing then there shouldn’t be that much of a problem. (in my world)

  14. Jenjen November 16th, 2015 at 16:13

Who is going to fund this? And how can any funding be justified while we’re are making cuts to social services for actual Citizens? And also justify spending more and more on sending arms to the “rebels” and creating MORE refugees??

Plus why are we attempting to take down moderate Assad and replace him with another oppressive Wahhabi regime like Saudi Arabia?

    • Dwendt44 November 17th, 2015 at 00:15

Republicans don’t care about average citizens.

  15. granpa.usthai November 16th, 2015 at 16:57

throwing out the migrant farm workers sure as hell didn’t help.

maybe if they went 360 and threw out the KKK (themselves included)?

  16. Suzanne McFly November 16th, 2015 at 17:08

What is he going to do, build a fence?

  17. Jodie November 16th, 2015 at 17:15

So…Is he not going to acknowledge that there are terrorists right here in our own country already? What about James Holmes? Timothy McVay? Any of the mass murderers in our history…You don’t have to be foreign-born to be a terrorist. Besides, we’re all immigrants except the Native-Americans. We were looking for a place to be free as well. How were we more deserving than the TRUE Syrian refugees that will be denied refuge here?

    • Dwendt44 November 17th, 2015 at 00:15

~70% of domestic violence is by white people.

      • Jodie November 17th, 2015 at 09:18

I don’t know the stats on that. I just know that there’s plenty of terrorists right here in the US.
