California DMV’s To Automatically Register Voters

California Governor Jerry Brown signed a bill into law that allows the state to automatically register voters using their motor vehicle records.

Starting in 2016, every eligible California citizen who goes to a DMV office to get a driver’s license or renew one will be instantly registered to vote, unless he or she chooses to opt out.

“Citizens are currently forced to opt-in to their fundamental right to vote through registration,” said Secretary of State Alex Padilla, who wrote the bill and pushed for its passage. “We do not have to opt-in to other rights. We do not have to opt-in to free speech or due process. The right to vote should be no different.”

                    You are blessed to have fond memories of your grandmother. My father’s mother died many years before I was born and his father died when I 11/2 years old. My mother’s parents both lived long lives but they were stern strict people who were never warm to me.

    There’s more to this than meets the eye.

    The real push is not to increase the number of potential voters. There is a critical shortage of potential jurors for cases. California draws its jurors from the lists of registered voters. The intent of the law is to increase the size of the potential juror pool.

      i don’t see that as the case. when you get an I.D. or a D.L. you automatically become registered as a potential juror. now, it’s you’re automatically registered to vote.

        Depends on the state. Some draw from voter rolls some from drivers license data.

      Before any voting GWB’s HAVA requires: Certified U.S. Birth Certificate, Currently validated Federal ID signature matches, Address verification via past 3 months Mortgage/rent Bank & utility bill statements, where your approved Voter info is sent for your precinct signature match. Your GOP lost 5 of the past 6 Popular POTUS votes because just 23.9% of registered voters remain in your dying xenophobe party. http://elections.huffingtonpost.com/pollster/party-identification Even uninformed dipshits know non-U.S. citizens can’t register or vote e.g. of 400 M+ votes cast, just 33 voter fraud convictions from 2000 to 2010 = .0004% voter impersonation convictions.
