Obama Apologizes To Doctors Without Borders

President Obama called Doctors Without Borders to apologize for a bombing that killed 12 staff members and at least 10 patients in Afghanistan, according to Press Secretary Josh Earnest.

“This morning from the Oval Office, President Obama spoke by telephone with Doctors Without Borders International President Dr. Joanne Liu, to apologize and express his condolences for the MSF staff and patients who were killed and injured when a US military airstrike mistakenly struck an MSF field hospital in Kunduz, Afghanistan over the weekend,” Earnest said in the White House briefing.

“When we make a mistake, we’re honest about it, we own up to it, we apologize where necessary as the president did in this case,” Earnest added. “We implement the kinds of changes that make it less likely that those kinds of mistakes will occur in the future.”

The president also phoned Afghan President Ashraf Ghani to “express his condolences for the innocent loss of life in that incident,” Earnest said.

    Still waiting on Dubya and Cheney to apologize for their failure to heed the warnings on 9/11, their reckless rush to an unnecessary war in Iraq, their incompetent mishandling of the economy, their… etc. etc. etc.

    I wonder who the investigation will show authorized the attack. We know the pilot/gunner is guilty of a war crime even if they were “just following orders.” The question is who had final say on the go ahead with this bombing.

          You seem to be presupposing that a) it was known that a hospital fulla friendlies was being fired upon, and b) that they meant to hit it.

          It’s a bit premature for this sort of stuff, don’t you think?
