UN Rights Chief Says U.S. Strike At Afghan Hospital Is War Crime

The air strike at an Afghanistan hospital is being called “utterly tragic, inexcusable, and possibly even criminal,” by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

“This deeply shocking event should be promptly, thoroughly and independently investigated and the results should be made public,” Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein said in a statement on Saturday.

“The seriousness of the incident is underlined by the fact that, if established as deliberate in a court of law, an airstrike on a hospital may amount to a war crime.”

He described the bombing as “utterly tragic, inexcusable, and possibly even criminal.”

“International and Afghan military planners have an obligation to respect and protect civilians at all times, and medical facilities and personnel are the object of a special protection. These obligations apply no matter whose air force is involved, and irrespective of the location.”

      The US uses informants to tell them where the bad guys are hiding and sometimes the informant turns out to be a bad guy and this happens. I have a friend who was over there and he said it wasn’t uncommon for one tribal elder to do it to get back at another tribe that they were feuding with.

        Doctors without Borders periodically furnishes both sides of the conflict their GPS location. Last time was September 29. When the bombing started they communicated with the US, the bombing lasted 30 minutes after the communication. So I read in several news sites

          you got it right G. From all news reports on the european continent, the attack was real – the gps was sent to avoid such a tragedy and did continue for 1/2 hr after the place was blown to smithereens. The usa has yet to apologize for a single civilian casualty – always relying on the fine excuse of “collateral damage” damage, as in the lifves of children and doctors and nurses and aid workers.
