Alabama Takes Down Confederate Flag; Social Media Racists Go Berserk

The Republican Governor of Alabama, Robert Bentley, ordered the Confederate flag taken down from the grounds of the state capitol on Wednesday, and from the reaction on social media, you would have thought he had said the entire city of Montgomery will be burned to the ground.

After issuing the order to remove the flag, Bentley commented:

This is the right thing to do. We are facing some major issues in this state regarding the budget and other matters that we need to deal with. This had the potential to become a major distraction as we go forward. I have taxes to raise, we have work to do. And it was my decision that the flag needed to come down.

I don’t see how the social media people are racists

But even if they are, the freedom to fly the flag is far more important than racism itself – it should stand just for that reason alone

Nope, it is the losers flag of treason and racism

    • KABoink_after_wingnut_hacker June 24th, 2015 at 21:00

If anyone wants to display that abomination they have every right to do so on their own property.

But to display it on public property maintained by tax dollars of all citizens, is another matter altogether. Fascinating that people who are so hostile to government, are so incensed that government is withdrawing support for the Confederate Stars and Bars which is a symbol of an undeniable act of treason against the United States.

      Article 3

      Section 3.

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in ***levying war against them,**** or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort.

Finally, somebody is starting to get it right. This flag is about a defunct movement in our past history. It now belongs in museums to remind us of our past. As for public display today, it can be an demonstration of free speech on an individual basis. But, it should not be displayed by a government entity as a symbol of defiance or separation.

    • katkelly57 June 24th, 2015 at 21:45

That is your reasoning…it is not THE flag of the United States of America…it is a flag of separatism on all levels.
It does not represent the majority of Americans.

      Capisce?

      P.S.
“the freedom to fly the flag is far more important than racism itself”

Keep telling yourself that…you, as a person of color should realize the implications of racism, right?
If in fact, that is your real name and photo…I don’t know, you could be a shit stirrer too.

The people who claim that the Governor having the flag removed is “banning” it, or in any way an infringement of their freedom, are idiots. They may be racist as well, but definitely idiots.
Can we all assume that to compensate for this one flag coming down, you’ve raised a second one in your front yard?

But not in a government situation.

I just love the “southern pride and cultural heritage” crap. This is a symbol of a failed insurgency to overthrow the United States!!!! A flag for traitors! Beyond that, it’s a symbol of a losing side whose bloodlust for human bondage is a blight on our history! Who in their right mind would want to lay claim to allegiance and pride and honor such a sad and horrible event as the confederacy?

    About damn time~!

Are we supposed to believe that politicians are just catching on the fact that the Confederate flag is a symbol of racism?..

One guy says on Mediate that it stands for states rights. And one of those rights was the right to own slaves.

This flag is a symbol from a defunct political movement from our past. As such, it should be displayed in museums as a reminder of our past. An individual may display this flag as they please as doing so would qualify under the freedom of speech. On the other hand, a government entity should never publically display this flag or any other such symbol as a symbol of rebellion, defiance, or separation of peoples.
