Only In America: A Site Devoted To The Latest Shootings In America

Gunrundown.com displays all of the daily shootings from all across America. It’s sad that such a site even exists. It appears that the person behind this is Chad Surges, who tried unsuccessfully to crowd fund it. I hope Chad continues this project so we can see, all in one place, the damage guns are doing to America.

I think only shotguns should be banned. Those things arent more dangerous. But they create the most horrific looking wounds

That’s bound to be one busy site.

Good work Chad! Too many Americans have allowed themselves to become numb to gun violence. Thank you Chad!

A student of mine asked if there was any extra work they could do to earn extra credit. I said they could write a response to the Charleston shootings, so they did.

So this kid is what, 15 or 16? and a Korean student?

Why did you give this kid that assignment?

I think it’s a good idea, although this particular letter should be taken with a grain of salt.

Could you share other such “Letters…” from American students? I’d especially like to read those.

Although to be honest also full of trepidation. What if they all hate America as much as your Korean student?

What are we going to do then?

My student does not hate America, rather they are critical of America. You use the word hatred far too easily, hatred is when a white male walks into a church and slaughters 9 black people. My student’s letter contains frustration, please do not confuse it with hatred. I wonder how you would have felt if the author were an American, would that put you at ease?

        • greenfloyd June 22nd, 2015 at 08:03

I agree, “hate” was too strong a word. “Lopsided,” is probably a more accurate description, and I hope gives less offense to you and your student or students?

I think the “Letter to America” is a good writing exercise, I hope you consider expanding it to your other students, and share them with us.

I’m always very interested in learning how American kids view the world today and their outlook on important issues like race and guns. They will inherit the wind… but sometimes out of the mouth of babes… right? However kids are often naive and they deserve an an honest critique. But that’s your job and I don’t mean to intrude.

You are a wonderful teacher, thank you for being there.
It takes a teacher like you to inspire children to think, be curious, and to feel significant, all crucial to the development of strong adults.

That’s very kind. Thank you for taking the time to read and write such a positive comment. Many thanks.

In a world with such bad news daily, it heartens me to know that you are enriching the lives of young people, and giving them skills to last a lifetime.

Not exactly comprehensive, scientific, or accurate. Basically just pulling headlines, lots of duplicates. It’s gun-violence porn.

I am glad to see this site getting the attention it deserves. I am very impressed with its direct and simple approach to the content, with a lot of programming skill behind the scenes giving us near real-time updating.

But I can only take it in small doses; I start to hear gun fire, the slash of knives and wail of sirens… it’s endless, it’s overwhelming!

Gunrundown.com may also, after closer examination, be a very revealing window into Gangsta-culture and its relationship to this endless, widespread urban terrorism and violence in America’s poor and minority communities. However one might define “terrorism,” the end results are always the same, murder and mayhem.

During the Vietnam war, the numbers of deaths of US soldiers were broadcast on the evening news, everyday, and those numbers had an impact upon the conscience of Americans.
The same should happen daily regarding gun deaths in America, I think most people would be shocked to see the daily carnage……no wars involved, other than upon other citizens.

Had the same thing in the Stars and Stripes …so you could see if any of the clowns you grew up with made the hit parade…

    Good morning, America!
    Where my gun deaths at?
