Arizona Poll: Primary Voters Iffy On McCain

John McCain is vulnerable in his quest for reelection.

The survey’s conclusions are not exactly new. McCain, R-Ariz., long at odds with many Arizona conservatives, has said he anticipates and is preparing for an aggressive rival in next year’s Senate Republican primary.

The poll released Tuesday by Raleigh, N.C.-based Public Policy Polling indicates McCain would be in tight primary races against either U.S. Rep. Matt Salmon, the top choice of national “tea party” organizations searching for a conservative alternative to McCain, U.S. Rep. David Schweikert, who earlier this year cited his wife’s disapproval of a Senate run as the reason why he probably won’t take the plunge.

If he loses, the question is will he still be able to make his mortgage payments on those mansions?

I once voted for John McCain back in the 2000 California primaries which were open primaries at the time. You could vote for anyone. I chose Sen. McCain over Al Gore in my primary selection. I thought at the time, that given the division in this country generated by the relentless hatred of President Clinton, a McCain administration might help to heal the country.

Silly me. Little did I know that the right wing hate machine was just getting started trashing anyone who dared to put a D after their names.

Still, I will take a Sen. John McCain over any TeaParty messiah, any day of the week and twice on the Sabbath, whatever day that might be for you..
