California Bill Requires Vaccinations

The bill would eliminate “personal belief” exemptions.

Under the bill, introduced after a measles outbreak that began at Disneyland, parents who refuse vaccines for philosophical or religious reasons would have to educate their children at home. The legislation prompted a roiling debate in Sacramento, and last week hundreds of people protested at the Capitol, arguing that it infringed on their rights and that it would unfairly shut their children out of schools.

Last Wednesday, the legislation stalled in the Senate Education Committee as lawmakers said they were concerned that too many students would be forced into home schooling. This Wednesday, however, the bill passed that committee after its authors tweaked it, adding amendments that would expand the definition of home schooling to allow multiple families to join together to teach their children or participate in independent study programs run by public school systems…

Senator Richard Pan, a physician and the lead author of the bill, said he would not agree to an amendment to allow exemptions for religious reasons, saying that they could be easily be abused.

In the photo that accompanies the NY Times article, one parent is holding a sign reading “SB 277 Makes My Child a Truant.” No, your stupid choice to not immunize your child, endangering every other child in school, is the problem.

And you just know that these same dumbassed parents were themselves vaccinated as children but of course that’s another story.

It’s high time that California get back to what used to be a requirement. Back in the day parents had to show proof of vaccinations if not then the child couldn’t begin kindergarten or as the case may be attend school.

There were children that were pulled out of school the other month during the Disneyland epidemic that’s why this bill is so important. I did most of my growing in California and that’s why I said proof had to be shown but somewhere along the line that requirement fell by the wayside.

“SB 277 Makes My Child a Truant” NO, *you’re* making your child a truant. Enough of this victim mentality – it’s your shitty decision to not vaccinate them and put other people at risk. That’s like saying, “My child isn’t allowed to walk into school with a loaded handgun – YOU’RE making my child a truant!” No one does anything to you. If you want your child to go to school, then you have to abide by the responsibilities that come with it.
