‘TRAITORS’: NY Daily News Pillories Senate GOPers

Some dare call it treason – on the front page!

In an editorial that leads today’s issue, the editors of the NY Daily News don’t hold back in slamming the unforgivable conduct of the Senate’s GOP caucus:

Regardless of President Obama’s fecklessness in negotiating a nuclear deal with Iran, 47 Republican U.S. senators engaged in treachery by sending a letter to the mullahs aimed at cutting the legs out from under America’s commander-in-chief.

We join GOP signatories in opposing the pact as outlined, but we strenuously condemn their betrayal of the U.S. constitutional system.

The participants represented the bulk of the Republicans’ 54-member senatorial majority, vesting their petulant, condescending stunt with the coloration of an institutional foreign policy statement.

They are an embarrassment to the Senate and to the nation. …

Horrendously, every member of the Republican Senate leadership signed the letter, as did GOP presidential contenders Ted Cruz, Lindsey Graham, Rand Paul and Marco Rubio. Only seven Republicans showed sense enough not to go along.

If we really did live in a free and just country, Eric Holder and/or Loretta Lynch would get medieval on the 47 traitors, using the Logan Act to relocate the entire caucus to a more appropriate home like Gitmo (that image should make conservative heads explode).

Yes, I oppose waterboarding – but I’d make an exception for that louche, smirking game show host Ted Cruz.

How about the rack, a la Monty Python? I can’t post the link, I’m at work. (don’t tell anyone.)

They’ll probably get the comfy chair and the soft cushions, truth be told.

And a lifetime pension worth twice what the average American makes in a year..

    • rg9rts March 10th, 2015 at 15:58

I would dance neked in Times Square if that happened

  2. OldLefty March 10th, 2015 at 08:28

This would be like the Democrats writing to Ibrahim al-Jaafari in 2008 stating that ‘any agreement made between your government and President Bush will be revoked by the next president.’

It is just more evidence that our current Congress is made up of very silly and unserious
people put there in very serious times.

We all know that the real fear here is that come 20, 50 years from this will be a positive historic feather in Obama’s cap.

Holy cow! Was that really the headline: “TRAITORS”? Yes, it’s accurate and truthful.

From the daily news which is a little to the right of Hitler

  4. Kim Connell March 10th, 2015 at 08:43

They called them what they really are.

  5. Obewon March 10th, 2015 at 09:09

Iran laughed at GOP obstructionists preying for war noting ‘This is a 6 country agreement (P5+1). Those that signed the letter know less about international treaty law and their own constitution than even we do!’-NPR yesterday.

  6. Hirightnow March 10th, 2015 at 09:14

“…in our view, this letter has no legal value and is mostly a propaganda ploy.”

  7. mea_mark March 10th, 2015 at 09:23

Dissenting opinion is one thing but treason is something else. Obama has to do something here, he can’t let them get away with this or they will be even more emboldened and try something more extreme.

    • Scopedog March 10th, 2015 at 10:37

And WE have to do something as well–by making sure that these jerks are not re-elected. 2016 is fast approaching, and we have to take back the House and the Senate. No more “I’m not voting to send a message” nonsense–the stakes are far, far too high.

  8. Anomaly 100 March 10th, 2015 at 09:48

It is treasonous. Off with their heads!

    • dave-dr-gonzo March 10th, 2015 at 14:14

I wouldn’y go that far. But a li’l Lorena Bobbitting might be worthwhile.

It’s treason, plain and simple. We need to consider emergency elections to replace these #47traitors .

The Logan act has seldom been used to prosecute anyone. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logan_Act#Accusations_of_violations_of_the_Act
Although it is perfectly within the realm of the legal definition to convene a committee and hire special prosecutors, it’s unlikely.
The President has generally shown constraint and overwhelming tactical skill when dealing with these matters. He has in the past, and will likely continue to simply watch these fools dig their own political graves, and let history and the American voting public be the judge. The upshot of the Presidents ratings right after the Netanyahu debacle is clear evidence of this.

In case anyone is unclear on the editorial bent of the publishers of the NY Daily News, I trust this will clear things up for you. They are the protoypical “swing voter” They endorsed Obama in 2008, and Romney in 2012.

  11. Foundryman March 10th, 2015 at 11:48

Corporate media giants will of course give these 47 traitors a pass and instead concentrate on Hillary’s emails.
Not to be to hyperbolic, but this is close to a bloodless coup attempt to undermine the President. These senators should all be forced to resign.

    • Bunya March 10th, 2015 at 13:41

Let’s see, the Bush Administration was able to do the following with impunity: warrantless wiretap, start an unnecessary war for profit, torture detainees (to name a few). I’m sure the democrats will give a pass to these traitors, also.

      • pinballsdoll March 11th, 2015 at 12:48

i hope not…these guys stepped right in it and cannot be allowed to just walk away

  12. oldfart March 10th, 2015 at 14:43

really all one can do, is to keep giving them plenty of rope and encouragement,
they’re bound to hang themselves eventually.

  13. rg9rts March 10th, 2015 at 15:55

As Iran said…propaganda…They can’t even wait till the negotiations are finished before issuing threats

  14. Suzanne McFly March 10th, 2015 at 17:23

This is how they show their disdain for the American people who voted for the President of the United States and he won twice.

  15. Jake March 10th, 2015 at 18:43

One way to shut these war-mongers up would be to introduce a draft. No way are trust fund kids going to fight in a war to defend the United States – that is the job of the children of Democrats.

  16. Chinese Democracy March 10th, 2015 at 19:53

Obama derangement syndrome is not a strategy

  17. Warman1138 March 10th, 2015 at 20:53

Every day is another day of increasing dumbness for the GOP.
