A Drought Like We Haven’t Seen In A Thousand Years

A thousand years ago droughts forced Native Americans to abandon cities like the one pictured above.  It could happen again soon.

Without dramatic cuts to greenhouse gas emissions, the southwestern U.S. and Central Plains will suffer persistent drought in the latter half of the 21st century that would exceed even the worst droughts seen a millennium ago, says a new study. Those hot, dry conditions likely caused ancient Native Americans known as the Anasazi to abandon the pueblo cities at Mesa Verde and Chaco Canyon.

A major disaster is coming because of climate deniers. Idiocy propagated by republicans will destroy America if left unchecked. Vote.

it’s not america one worries about – it’s actually the whole world. Sentences like yours, although I like most of your comments, are an unconscious, I hope, americanism.

Most of the audience and readers are Americans. I tend to write to the audience.

Hey genius, what was the cause of the drought back then?

I don’t want to piss you off but that comment is exactly what I mean – there is an elitism that seems always to keep the usa out of the loop except when drones are needed.

More bull from a government agency seeking to keep itself in business. There are thousands of scientists worldwide who have a contrary viewpoint. If all this stuff was true, why do we find so much fraud from the “climate change” scientific community to prove their point. The scientific community cannot even forecast the weather correctly for the next day or two and now they have pegged all these past and future weather problems on man?

          • arc99 February 13th, 2015 at 14:42

If the science which disputes climate change is sound why is it that you right wingers rely so much on character assassination to make your argument?

could you possibly list two respected scientists who reject the idea than homo sapiens is not a contributing factor the the changing climate?

Make sure that those two names we are still waiting on don’t work for the oil and gas industry.

So, a thousand years ago a great drought occurred – was that caused by man too or was it just a natural earth climate change occurrence? See, this story tears apart the “climate change” fanatics charge that todays weather changes are due soley to man. This kind of stuff HAS ALWAYS HAPPENED. Now you people need to stop being stupid and accept reality.

    • mea_mark February 13th, 2015 at 12:50

You are the one saying ‘solely to man’. Most people think man is making things worse and aggravating bad situations.

      • John Tarter February 13th, 2015 at 13:11

Yep, that is what you people say, it’s man that is causing all the current weather problems. “It’s cold” – must be man caused climate change. “It’s a hurricane” – must be man caused climate change. “It’s snowing” – must be man caused climate change. The whole thing is ridiculous and laughable at this point and the whole concept denies the reality that the earth we live on is constantly changing and has done so for millions of years.

There is a significant difference between weather and climate.

Studies have shown that Arizona and Texas are already over the limit on available water population wise, not to mention agriculture uses.
